Bangs were basically an entity in and of themselves in the '80s. As long as your fringe reached for the sky, you could saunter down the street with some swag in your step.
The kids definitely wanted their MTV back in the '80s -- and the larger-than-life manes that regularly appeared in the network's hair band videos. Alas, this extreme style didn't rock on into the decades that followed.
