This "vintage, downtown cool" look features a deep red lip created by brushing a dark red lipstick (like Nars Lipstick, $23 in Shanghai Express) in the center of the lip and a medium, rich red (like MAC Lipstick, $14 in Russian Red) on the outside. To keep the focus of this look on the mouth, leave skin and eyes virtually bare. Just apply concealer where needed, beige eye shadow and a little shimmer on your inner eye corners and cheekbones. And if you have the courage, curl lashes and ditch the mascara! -- Charli, Associate Editor

This wins for putting a new twist on a traditional black lined eye. The main feature is the eyeliner (we like Physicians Formula MicroKohl Eye Definer Ultra-Slim Automatic Kohl Eyeliner Pencil, $6.95), which is applied only in the outer and inner corners of eyes -- like parentheses. This gives eyes a bold, defined look without encircling them with liner (which can make eyes look smaller). To make the look more wearable, apply less liner and smudge. -- Sarah, Assistant Editor

This is such cute wedding hair -- from the front, a sleek pompadour (you can tone down the height if you're not Gwen Stefani); from the back, a French-twisty half-updo. How to do it: Spritz volumizing spray (try Ted Gibson Build It Blow Drying Agent, $28) directly at your scalp before blow-drying for added thickness. Add curl once hair is dry with a medium-sized curling iron. After curling all of your hair, brush it out for a softer, more modern wave. Tease hair at the front of your head and pull hair back into a half-up mini French twist or tuck. Secure with bobby pins. Finish by spritzing on hairspray. -- Beth, Editor in Chief

Inspired by British actress Charlotte Rampling circa 1980, this slightly voluminous, softly curled 'do spotlights one of the biggest hair trends of Fashion Week. It looks like simply gorgeous, never-fried-with-a-flat-iron hair. Recreate the style by applying a light hold volumizing mousse (like Redken Touch Control 05 Volumizing Texture Whip, $14) from roots to tips before blow-drying hair straight. Part hair down the middle and wrap large sections of hair around a medium-sized curling iron. Let set for just a few seconds, then finger comb through curls and distribute shine serum all over to finish. -- Kristen, Senior Editor

The first words that come to mind might be "Victorian bird's nest," but toned down a bit, this disheveled French twist adds a little rock 'n' roll to an otherwise classic look. Prep hair with thickening lotion (we like Samy Get Thick Thickening and Styling Lotion 06, $5.99) and give hair a rough blow-dry using fingers. Tease for height at the crown and gather the rest of hair into a loose French twist, being careful not to hide the tease or take body away. Secure with bobby pins, leaving a few strands loose around the sides and at the nape of neck. Set with hairspray and voila! (Distribute conditioner through hair when taking this style down to avoid damage from teasing.) -- Charli, Associate Editor
