Forget the charcoal smoky eye; we're in love with this pop of purple done in the same smoky look. To do this at home, start by applying a purple cream shadow from lash lines to creases. (Don't go above your creases to keep the look more wearable.) Line your lower lash line in the same shade. Next, line eyes in dark gray pencil liner and finish the eye by blending a shimmery deep purple shadow (we like MAC Eye Shadow in Nocturnelle, $14) on top of the cream shadow. Balance the look by sweeping a neutral-colored blush on your cheek bones and applying a semi-matte nude (instead of super pale, so you don't look ghostly) lip color. --Beth, Editor in Chief

This angelic, "modern Elizabethan"-inspired look is defined by rosy-stained cheeks and lips and flirty false lashes. Recreate it by first applying a cherry colored stain (like Stila Cherry Crush Lip and Cheek Stain, $24) to the apples of your cheeks and lips. Then if you're up for the challenge, apply 3-4 clumps of individual false lashes, starting mid-lashes (with shorter falsies) and ending at the outer corners (with longer falsies). This gradual extension in length creates a cat-eye effect. For everyday, skip the false lashes and apply two coats of lengthening mascara, focusing on emphasizing your outer lashes. -- Kristen, Senior Editor

This "vintage, downtown cool" look features a deep red lip created by brushing a dark red lipstick (like Nars Lipstick, $23 in Shanghai Express) in the center of the lip and a medium, rich red (like MAC Lipstick, $14 in Russian Red) on the outside. To keep the focus of this look on the mouth, leave skin and eyes virtually bare. Just apply concealer where needed, beige eye shadow and a little shimmer on your inner eye corners and cheekbones. And if you have the courage, curl lashes and ditch the mascara! -- Charli, Associate Editor

This wins for putting a new twist on a traditional black lined eye. The main feature is the eyeliner (we like Physicians Formula MicroKohl Eye Definer Ultra-Slim Automatic Kohl Eyeliner Pencil, $6.95), which is applied only in the outer and inner corners of eyes -- like parentheses. This gives eyes a bold, defined look without encircling them with liner (which can make eyes look smaller). To make the look more wearable, apply less liner and smudge. -- Sarah, Assistant Editor
