Theresa before
"I've never done anything to my hair besides a haircut ... anything in addition to that would be awesome!" says Theresa, 23, who is ready to finally try hair color for the first time in her life. She also wants help taming her frizzy curls, which she spends an hour-and-a-half straightening with a flat iron regularly. Needless to say, she is ready for a cut and style that will help her contain her unruly mane. "I'm finally feeling confident enough for a change," she says. "In the past I would have been nervous, but I'm finally willing to let go because it's not my mom or my mom's friend cutting my hair."

The cut
To tame Theresa's wild curls, Olson says she needs to fix Theresa's current cut. "She has two haircuts living on the same head -- long hair and then suddenly a bob on top of that," says Olson. In order to bring weight off the curls and from around Theresa's face, Olson "marries the two styles" by cutting about an inch-and-a-half off the bottom of Theresa's hair, cleaning up any damaged ends and giving her hair a shape that's easy to manage.

Also, Olson recommends Theresa to start washing her hair with a shampoo and conditioner that will help to tame her frizzy curls. Try Pantene Pro-V Curly Hair Series Curls to Straight Shampoo, $4.49 and Pantene Pro-V Curly Hair Series Curls to Straight Conditioner, $4.49 when she wants to smooth out her hair.

The color
As it's Theresa's first experience with color, Moreno says "we don't want to take her too far from her natural shade." By keeping Theresa's hair darker on the top and adding subtle golden-brown highlights to her curls, Theresa's hair will still feel like her own, just brighter and better. Moreno starts by warming up Theresa's dark ash-brown roots with a chocolate shade, then to create the "sun flicks," as Moreno calls them, she paints on caramel-colored highlights just on the ends of Theresa's hair. This gives "warmth to her face," says Moreno.

The style
To remind Theresa she doesn't have to spend hours with her flat iron, Olson has fellow stylist Reanna Garcia simply smooth out Theresa's natural curls to create silky waves. Garcia starts by applying a light volumizing spray then blows out her hair using a flat paddle brush. Once her hair is dry, she uses a one-and-a-quarter inch curling iron to create a loose wave. "We did this because she has naturally wavy hair, so obviously [the curly style] is what will look best on her. We just created a more polished version of her natural hair," says Olson. She finished by misting the look with a light-hold hairspray (try Pantene Pro-V Curly Hair Series Satin Hold Hairspray, $4.49).

The brows
Theresa's brows are in need of some serious TLC from Hollier. To stay on trend, Hollier keeps Theresa's brows thick and simply follows her natural shape when waxing and tweezing, as this is the most flattering way to clean up brows. She also dyed them to match Theresa's new lighter and warmer hairline color. A cleaned up and lightened brow instantly gives Theresa a more polished look, says Hollier.

With virgin color and hair that has only been cut by family members, Theresa is due for a style overhaul. Here to make the magic happen is our talented makeover team at the Warren-Tricomi salon in Los Angeles, Calif., which includes hairstylists Whitney Olson and Reanna Garcia, colorists Jherra Moreno and Ashleigh Childers, and celebrity makeup artist and co-founder of the Luxe Beauty Team Amy Hollier. See how they take the reserved music teacher's look to a whole new level of sophistication with subtle highlights and smoothed out curls, giving her the elegant look she craves.
