The latest trend in makeup? Non-makeup. Or rather, "invisible" makeup that works by using "tiny light-reflecting polymers" to smooth out your skin and give the illusion of skin change. Products like L'Oreal's Instant Blur are using the technology to change the tone of skin without using color.

That's a change, because most brands use some amount of color or pigment to hide imperfections. Others use chemicals that, once applied, change the natural flush of your skin. The technology is being used in a variety of products, including lip enhancers, eye primers, lash gels, and blushes, all aimed at enhancing your skin's natural tones. And brands like Smashbox, Botanics and Illamasqua are getting in on it. But does it work?

Makeup artist Julia Biddlecombe had this to say: "I was sceptical that a few tubes of colorless creams and gels could give me a 'made up' face but the final result was impressive. Without using any traditional foundation, blusher, eyeshadow, concealer or mascara, my complexion looked surprisingly even-toned and glowing, and the overall appearance was very polished," she said.
