The Skin Issue Women Think Guys Will Kick Them Out of Bed Over

Convinced your complexion's riddled with craters? You've got lots of company ...
Trying to hone in on what its core consumer base is most concerned with when it comes to skin care, L'Oréal commissioned a survey -- the results of which they just made public.

In February, Harris Polls conducted a survey of 2,000 on the brand's behalf -- and where once folks may have clicked the button that identified wrinkles, fine lines or sunspots as their primary complexion woe, this time 'round "large pores" stole the majority of the votes.

Almost half of the women said they wished they could change the size of their pores (presumably, to smaller) and twenty eight percent (nearly one in three) admitted to being more concerned about pore size than wrinkles.

As someone who's never even given more than a passing thought to the size of my pores, preferring, I guess, to fixate on all the sun damage I've accrued, I'm not only shocked by this revelation but now loathe to go anywhere near a mirror for fear that I'll now have something new to hate about my face.

Me being a bizarre anomaly aside, pore size has so gripped our female population that dermatologists have coined a new term; porexia is now being ascribed to those who "have a neurosis about their pores." Oh, snap.

As the press release revealing the results of the L'Oréal poll indicates, we've truly become a nation fixated:

• Nearly four in ten women (38 percent) feel their pores are too big; this number rises to nearly fifty percent among Latina women (48 percent)

• Nearly half of US women (47 percent) would give up something in exchange for smaller pores; 23 percent would give up alcohol for a year, 17 percent would give up social media for a year, and 11 percent would give up shaving their legs for a year

• Nearly two in ten women (19 percent) edit or filter photos before posting to hide skin imperfections and one in ten women avoid taking selfies due to pore size.

• More than one in ten women think about pore size while on a date and admit to thinking about the size of their pores at least once a day -- every day.

All of this must be music to L'Oréal's ears since, coincidence (!), they just happen to have a new product, the aptly named Youth Code Pore Vanisher, on the market.

According to materials on the moisturizer, it "shrinks pore size both instantly and over time" yielding an instantly "smooth, poreless-looking" complexion that after four weeks has "actual pore size" reduction.

"Almost every day, patients come into my office complaining about their pore size. In fact, it is one of the top three skincare concerns I hear from women," L'Oréal Paris Consulting Dermatologist Dr. Gervaise Gerstner explains in a press release. "Now for the first-time, there is a product that not only temporarily minimizes the look of pores but actually shrinks the actual pore size."
