A fair amount of the mind-blowing makeup expertise you'll find on social media is of the variety that, while certainly transfixing enough to see you through a lazy Sunday afternoon, does not always play well IRL. Watching your favorite beauty vlogger execute a perfect cut-crease cat eye may be your spiritual equivalent of attending church, but sadly it's just not a skill that translates into everyday life. (As in, special occasions are a very different story.)

But if there's one lesson beauty vloggers have to teach us that we can actually use responsibly in the day-to-day (no, really), it's that everything starts with a flawless canvas. Very few of us were born with the clear, smooth, unblemished skin of the extraordinarily genetically blessed -- and that's totally fine, because that's what foundation is for. We asked seven must-watch vloggers for their best why didn't I think of that? tricks to beef up our skin-perfecting game big time. Read them, memorize them, use them -- and let the compliments roll in.

Create Your Own Bespoke Foundation
Beauty vlogger: Brianna Fox (@missbrimarie)

"I love mixing my foundation with something else to customize my look, depending on what I want to achieve that day. I like mixing it with an oil to give me a more dewy finish, or I like to mix two completely different foundations together to get the best of both foundations. For example, if I love the color and finish of one foundation but the longevity of another, I can mix them together to give me exactly what I'm looking for."

Start With Supersmooth Skin
Beauty vlogger: Haley Wright @cosmobyhaley

"For flawless foundation, my favorite trick is to shave off all the peach fuzz off my face. I know, superweird -- but I've been doing it for years and it helps with acne as well!"

Hydrate Your Skin and Your Tools
Beauty vlogger: Laura Sanchez (@laura_makeup)

"Hydrate the tool you're applying with and the surface you're applying to -- using a damp sponge or brush helps to get perfect coverage without wasting product, and using argan, coconut or almond oil on skin before applying makeup makes the blending easier. Plus, your skin will look healthier, as you don't have to rub too much to blend the colors."

Let Your Powder Bake
Beauty vlogger: Kristi (@rawbeautykristi)

"The most important trick for a flawless foundation application is setting your foundation in place. I use a loose powder and pack it onto my beauty blender. I heavily apply it to my under-eye area, and use an excess amount all over my face. At first, it looks like too much, but after you let it sit for about 5 minutes, you brush away the excess and are left with foundation that will not budge."
