Fashion trends have long been a sign of the economic climate. So when fur purses appeared en masse at the runways of New York Fashion Week, they seemed to signal fortuitous economic times to come. Although those designer fur purses are pricey and luxurious, they've also inspired hundreds more affordable options, as well as a few DIY versions and faux fur handbags. Here, eight faux fur and fur purses on our lust lists.

When you're enamored with a fashion trend that's less-than-affordable, a good DIY version might be the best solution. One of our favorite DIY bloggers, Meredith Krull of Meredith and Gwyneth, the New Yorkie, put together this simple chain-strap clutch, using fake fur to dress up her old handbag. (See details here.)

Bold colors add to the fun of a fur handbag, but stick with sophisticated patterns to keep the look age-appropriate. This color-blocked handbag from Vionnet's fall 2014 show at Paris Fashion Week is a prime example of what works.
