This isn't just another pitch for wearing sunscreen. But if you're going to wear makeup, it ought to offer the added benefit of extra sun protection. Kiehl's BB Cream, $40, offers SPF 50 and great coverage. It's the makeup I wear on weekends when I'm outside for more than just a few minutes.
Bite Beauty Honey Lip Lacquer, $24, is moisturizing like a balm, shiny like a gloss, and long-lasting like a lipstick. It's made with manuka honey, which keeps it feeling silky for hours. Beauty bonus: the color is made with food-grade pigments, so you don't have to wonder what kind of nuclear ingredient you're ingesting if you nibble a little.

Mascara
There are countless waterproof mascaras out there, but Clinique High Impact Waterproof Mascara, $16, is my favorite. It doesn't flake like so many others, it comes off easily with oil-based makeup remover, and it doesn't irritate sensitive eyes.

SPF For Your Hair
UV rays scorch your hair the same way they fry your skin -- it just takes longer to see the effects. Phyto Phytoplage Protective Sun Oil, $22, is a lifesaver on the beach. It's packed with hydrating oils that protect your hair as well as your scalp from the sun, saltwater, chlorine, and whatever else you're subjecting it to. Just remember: Wear a hat or apply sunscreen to your scalp where your part to protect that slice of exposed skin.
The summer beauty mantra will always be: sunscreen, sunscreen, and more sunscreen. But there's so much more to it. Your skin isn't the only thing exposed to brutal hot weather elements. Walking from your car to the office can leave your face looking like a Salvador Dali painting, nevermind the full-scale attack on your hair from the scorching sun, chlorinated pool water, or relentless humidity. It's enough to make a girl stay barefaced and in a permanent ponytail all summer long.
To the rescue: our picks for the very best new summer beauty buys. These hot-weather products are a must for keeping your hair, face and skin in peak condition.
