Cutouts & Metallics
Song of Style blogger Aimee Song is a power-house of style (her full-time gig: interior designer),and has ombre hair even Jared Leto would envy). She's been snapped all over New York Fashion Week in an endless array of leggy, California chic styles, but this metallic skater skirt ... be still, my beating heart.

The perfect mix of casual and comfort, Aimee mixed her ultra glamorous metallic cutout skirt with a relaxed chambray shirt. If you haven't purchased a chambray shirt yet, do it now. (You won't believe the number of ways you'll be wearing it soon.) Even edgy heels and a structured handbag don't look fussy paired with mirrored aviators and layered wrap bracelets. To imitate Aimee's body-flattering silhouette, look for skirts that hit at the smallest part of your waist (skater skirts are always a good choice) and choose an eye-catching belt to cinch over the top. A tucked in blouse also whittles away at the waistline.

90s Chic
In case you haven't heard eight times the world over, the 90s are back. We saw the trend all summer in little overall dresses, leather backpacks and some questionable acid wash denim. And while I'm not 100 percent sold on the grunge looks from the 90s, this savvy street styler made the era look (dare I say it?) chic.

To lend an oversized plaid shirt a little bit of prep, cuff the sleeves and opt for a fit that's roomy, but not too baggy. If you're feeling gusty you can try working the look from head-to-toe like this. but any basic bottom makes the look wearable. A menswear watch and classic black wayfarers are the perfect no-nonsense accessories to keep your look low maintenance. If you still want to incorporate some grunge, a la Gwen Stefani, do so in a pair of killer chunky black heels or boots. Finally finish your look with that rocker chic bed head look we just can't get enough of from Marissa Webb's runway show. While you're at it, throw on some Smashing Pumpkins just for old times' sake.

Bright Pants, Bold Prints
Miroslava Duma has been photographed the world over for her uncanny sense of style, so it's only natural that she showed up in our favorite street style snaps. The former editor of Harper's Bazaar Russiaand digital media director at TSUM (basically the Russian Neiman Marcus) is just barely over five feet tall, but knows how to pack a punch with a bold, and most likely tailored to fit, wardrobe.

Duma was spotted outside the Victoria Beckham show in this bright patterned top, cobalt trousers and metallic belt on September 8. Whether or not you're as petite as Dumas, you can wear elongating legwear. Any wide-legged pant paired with heels will do the trick when the hemline hits at the middle of the foot. And although I love her bold patterned shell, a tailored blouse tucked in at the waist can make the look office-appropriate and extra slimming.. I've coveted the metallic belt since they cropped up on the runway at Zuhair Murad last spring. I'll share a little secret: ASOS has a wide selection of budget-friendly waist belts. (You're welcome.)

Leather on Leather
Courtney Kerr, the Bravo TV star and blogger behind What Courtney Wore, is known for putting a sexy spin on classic pieces. Leather has been everywhere this summer, from cap-sleeved tops to skater skirts, and I love to see how easily the trend can transition into the cooler months. Although her Valentino shoes (they're red leopard print and calf hair!) and 3.1 Phillip Lim bag are a major splurge, she also mixes in bargain pieces. A Zara skirt, Baublebar and Gorjana jewelry and a top from Milk & Honey, a small Dallas boutique, are all within a recessionista's budget.

If you're not so sold on wearing all leather (go too far and you end up looking like a Hell's Angel) try to incorporate pieces with small leather details, like leather piping on a basic blazer. Or suck it up and go all out. Courtney's motto: "Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn."

The Proper Print Clash
New York Fashion Week is finally here and we've all got our game face on in the Total Beauty office. Some people start their juice cleanse and stock up on power bars to get through 12-hour days of runway shows and behind-the-scenes interviews. Others with fashion week FOMO spend the week with eyes glued to Instagram. My favorite part of fashion week is spotting the stylish clotheshorses captured in street style.

Outrageous looks make the week fun (we're looking at you Lynn Yaeger), but it's the more practical style that inspires my fall wardrobe wish list. Blogger Jeanie Lau mastered the art of pattern mixing perfectly in this shot outside the Pamela Gonzales show on September 4. Her Derek Lam jacket lends a sporty vibe to the bright, playful patterned skirt. The sparkly top transitions the look easily from day to night. The rich wine/chocolate Desmo bag Jeanie is toting is the perfect fall accessory, even with summer wedges.

Would you wear this look? What patterns or textures will you be mixing this fall?
