Here's What Happened When I Washed My Face With Peach Pear La Croix

Another reason to keep some La Croix in the house

We've heard of using cold water to wash our face, but sparkling water? Fizzy face cleansing has been making headlines lately and, like so many other buzzy beauty trends, sparkling water facials originated in Korea.

Proponents of bubbly cleansing say the carbonation helps give skin a smoother and more revitalized appearance. Although the idea of sparkling water on your skin may sound far-fetched, dermatologists seem to be on board with the trend. "The fizziness can help cleanse the skin better," board-certified dermatologist Dr. Debra Jaliman says. "Sparkling water is infused with carbon dioxide, which causes it to be bubbly." The bubbles are known to carry oxygen to the skin's barrier, which can help with puffiness and give a smoother, more hydrated appearance to skin, she adds.

To see how my skin would respond to a bubbly sparkling water face wash, I used some Peach Pear La Croix on my face (don't judge me!) for two days (experts say you'll only want to do this two times a week) to see if it gave me the revitalizing clean my skin desperately deserved. Here's how the whole thing went down.

Day 1
Following the advice of this article, I ditched my micellar water and used some La Croix sparkling water on my skin for 15 seconds after cleansing with it with a foaming face wash I use regularly. Of course, I could have left the sparkling water on longer, but since my skin is on the sensitive side (the wash does feel a little warm and tingly on your face), I used it for this amount of time in hopes that I wouldn't face unwanted irritation.

Thankfully, my 15-second wash did not irritate my skin and left it feeling pretty smooth and not tacky like some of my spray toners do. Even when I went to apply skin care products afterward, I was pleasantly surprised that they absorbed fairly quickly, despite using flavored sparkling water (which did not leave any unpleasant odors, btw) on my face.

Day 2
The second day of using sparkling face wash proved to be a pretty similar experience. The slick spots on my nose instantly disappeared after using the water for 15 seconds, and my facial serum and daily eye cream absorbed pretty quickly, which was definitely a plus.

Again, I didn't want to overdo it as I was still afraid my skin would become a dry flaking mess. However, my pores felt cleaner, even after two days, making me more than willing to add sparkling water face washes to my regimen twice a week in order to remove the deep-seated gunk and oil from my pores.

Final Thoughts
Although my sparkling water face wash experiment was a short one, it opened my eyes to how an inexpensive beauty hack like this one could provide noticeable results in just two days. Some micellar waters and facial toners can leave behind a tacky and greasy-like residue, making this something I'd be totally willing to add to my routine going forward. And the warming bubbly sensation is definitely starting to grow on me.
