Summer in the City
Reality TV darling and fashion designer Whitney Port's been sporting a chic lob lately, but back in her long-haired days she wore a fishtail braid better than anyone. Celebrity hairstylist George Gonzalez from George the Salon Chicago (ranked one of the top 100 salons in America by ELLE magazine breaks it down for us.

1. Start by sectioning dry hair in a deep side part the opposite direction from where you usually wear your part. Spray a root lifter spray like Alterna Bamboo Volume Uplifting Root Blast for volume then flip your hair back over.

2. "The base for this style is better with a slight wave," says Gonzalez. Either work in a beach spray (we're obsessed with the pretty packaging of Olivine Love + Salt Beach Hair and Body Mist) to play up your natural texture, or if you have straighter hair use a 1- to 1 1/2-inch curling iron to add some waves. (The iron pictured is Revlon Healthy Hair Rose Gold Curling Iron.)

3. Create a deep side part and push your hair over the opposite shoulder. "With its casual cool nature, the key to this style is definitely not perfection," says Gonzalez. "In fact, it's ok to be messy here!" Gonzalez suggests spraying dry shampoo or adding in more beach spray for more control and texture when braiding. Loosely start forming a three-strand braid, securing with an elastic at the ends.

4. Gently pull out layers as you go and wrap them around a large barrel curling iron. Finish with hairspray and a bonfire at the beach.

Angelic Crowns
We all know Zoe Saldana is a queen when it comes to red-carpet styling, but who knew she also had such great hair? This soft, rolled hairstyle is brunch appropriate, and keeps long hair off your neck on a hot summer day.

1. Celebrity hairstylist David Babaii of Blo Blow Dry Bars suggests starting out with a light leave-in shine product. (We love Kevin Murphy Shimmer Shine for its subtle gold flecks.)

2. Part hair to the side and begin rolling bangs or front layers up first, rolling toward the back of your head and securing with bobby pins as you go.

3. Continue on section by section, rolling hair up and back to join the rest of the crown, securing with bobby pins until the two sides meet.

4. Finish with decorative pins or a jeweled headband like this one from Etsy shop Twigs & Honey.

The Runway Pony
If you wake up and your hair is having crazy-big texture issues (or you know, what some call an ordinary summer day), embrace that texture with this roughed-up ponytail hairstyle.

1. If you don't have a lot of natural texture, blow-dry wet hair while scrunching in a volumizing or texturizing mousse, says Babaii. Try Kérastase Densifique Densimorphose. (Blow dryer pictured is the T3 Featherweight 2.)

2. Use a wide-tooth comb and comb hair backward. Use your fingers to make a low, undefined center part.

3. Take one side of your hair and roll the section toward your center part. Secure the roll with bobby pins, leaving the ends free. Repeat on the opposite side. "Allow any shorter ends or frays to fall naturally," says Babaii. "This is an unstructured ponytail."

5. Bring both ends of your hair together and secure with a hair elastic. Finally add some smudgy eyeliner and heavy mascara, because this look is calling for it.

Vintage Glamour
I'll be the first to admit I have a trigger finger when it comes to pinning any hairstyle that involves a pretty hair accessory. But aside from the sparkle factor, this slightly rumpled, lived-in hairstyle is the perfect mix of vintage glamour and the not-so-perfect look anyone can achieve.

1. Start by applying a texturizing product like Garnier Fructis De-Constructed Texture Tease to "create a slight wave with a bit of roughness," says Gonzalez.

2. Next, create a slightly off-center side part.

3. Use your fingers to push hair completely over to one side and make a low side ponytail at the nape of your neck, keeping out bangs or shorter front layers. For more dimension, you could also loosely French braid the hair over to the side as well, says Gonzalez.

4. Stick one finger right above your hair elastic to loosen up the top of your ponytail. Pull the end of your ponytail up, sticking it through the opening you've created and pull it through. (Otherwise known as a topsy tail if you're fancy.) But get messy! "It almost looks like the hair is tied in a big loose knot," says Gonzalez.

5. Use decorative hair pins (pictured is Jennifer Behr Silver Feather Swarovski Crystal Hairclip) to pin bangs loosely back.

6. Finish with flexible hold hairspray like Living Proof Style Lab Flex Shaping Hairspray. If your style ends up looking messier than intended, just embrace it. Tell everyone,"It's vintage, darling."

XXL Ponytail
In addition to being a pro on the tennis court, Anna Kournikova also gives us major hair envy. But keep in mind, this voluminous ponytail is nothing like your low-maintanence workout pony. Wear it to the office or even for a night out.(Your hair's not that full? No problem, there's probably some clip-in extensions at work here.)

1. "To re-create [this look], forget typical roller sets and opt for Velcro hair strips to fashion loosely sculpted curls with adjustable, no pull strips," says Gonzalez. Take two-inch sections of hair and mist with a thermal heating spray like Living Proof Restore Revitalizing Spray, laying the Velcro hair strip underneath. Roll the hair into a roller shape and use clips to hold in place.

2. Once all your hair is in the Velcro rollers, blast your hair with a blow dryer for five minutes to set the style. After you've take out all the clips and Velcro strips, comb your fingers through to loosen up waves.

3. Use a paddle brush (we like Olivia Garden Ionic Massage Bamboo Brush) to style your hair into a high ponytail. "Be careful not to brush all the way through," says Gonzalez. "This will disrupt the waves."

4. Take a piece of hair from the tail of your ponytail and wrap around the base, hiding your hair elastic. "[She] has a cool effect due to her hair color. By picking two small sections of hair, one dark and one light, this will create the double band look."

5. Finish with a flexible hold hairspray. (Okay, we were wrong. Low ponytails are not the only hairstyle to master this season.)

I have a thing for Pinterest hairstyles. I'm constantly pinning red carpet hairstyles, runway ponytails and anything that looks like it could make my hair even remotely resemble that of a Victoria's Secret model. The thing is -- I haven't accomplished a single one of them. Instead, my attempts end with me showing up late to work in a messy topknot ... again. And I know there have to be others who have the same frustrations (there's a whole website dedicated to Pinterest fails, after all). So we collaborated with a team of celebrity hairstylists to break down the products and step-by-step instructions you need to get that perfect Pinterest hairstyle every time.
