Matte texture, geometric shapes and natural nails ... is this the new nail art?

Lacquered Look
A high shine was balanced by a moody, subdued gray color at Proenza Schouler. Nail artist Michelle Saunders used Essie Licorice and Allure to achieve the varnished grey manicure.

Feathered and French
Nail artist Mahasin Phillips for Inglot used a bronze enamel to cover the tip of the nail at the Leanne Marshall show, then feathered it down to create a fiery, rebellious-looking French manicure.

The Truth of the Matte-r
In another marriage of matte and shine, manicurist Miss Pop used OPI Ink on the full length of the nail, and then topped half of it with Matte Top Coat at Charlotte Ronson. The result? Low-effort nails that look way more complicated than they are.

The No-Nail-Art Look
The simplest nail look at New York Fashion Week still requires some effort. Jinsoon Choi used one coat of JINsoon Matte Maker at the Vera Wang show to give nails an effortless, natural look -- dare we say you might get the same effect with a simple buff?

Vertical Ombre
A vertical ombre spiced up the nude nail colors at the Clover Canyon show. Nail artist Miss Pop used OPI Dolce De Leche, Taupe-Less Beach, and You Don't Know Jacques to take the manicure from humdrum to hip.

Put away your tweezers, magnifying glass, caviar beads and nail glue. The nail art at New York Fashion Week is simple, easy-to-achieve and elegant, while still making a statement. We stalked the runway to find the chicest, trendiest new looks at NYFW, and the verdict is in: elegant, understated nails are replacing over-the-top nail art of yore.

If you love nail art, fear not: It's not dead yet. Manicurists are still having fun with wacky colors and designs (see: the braces-inspired nails at Rachel Antonoff), it's just in a much subtler way. Good news for us, since these nails are way more wearable and require much less time to achieve.

Here, the best new nail art trends from New York Fashion Week.
