7 Seriously Effective Exercises to Sneak Into Your Beauty Routine

What's more impressive than fitting a workout and a DIY mani into your nighttime schedule? Doing them at the same time, obviously

Toothbrush Tip Toe
During the two minutes you brush your teeth (and the extra minute it takes to floss ... you are flossing, yes?), try relevés -- heel lifts with the legs straight. Mahri Relin, founder of Body Conceptions, explains that this repetition strengthens and tones the calves while challenging your balance.

For an even tougher move, try Mahri's dancer training balances: Relevé high onto the balls of your feet, then lift and hold each foot off the ground for as long as you can. This movement forces you to balance your entire body on the ball of one foot. Make sure to keep your abs engaged and pulled up, while relaxing the neck and shoulders.

Makeup Kegels
While applying your makeup, Mahri suggests working your deep pelvic muscles. Even though most of us associate Kegel exercises with pregnant women and Cosmo sex tips, Kegels are essential for everyone because they strengthen important core muscles and can help prevent incontinence later in life.

Mahri suggests 5 sets of 10 Kegel pulses. When you complete the sets, see how long you can engage and hold those muscles. Try 5 sets of these long holds.

Hairstyling Heel Lifts
Kajal Desai, co-founder of Doonya, suggests doing bent leg heel lifts when you're styling your hair. Squat down to 3/4 of your normal standing height and squeeze to lift onto the balls of your feet. Focus on creating a diamond shape with your legs, and keep your hips and knees turned out. Lift your heels while keeping your legs bent and you'll start to feel your thighs, hamstrings, and glutes burn.

Lip Gloss Glute Lifts
Any time you're reapplying lipstick or gloss, try glute lifts. (No, applying lipstick doesn't have anything to do with your butt, but it's a good reminder to do these exercises periodically throughout the day.) Kajal says to lean slightly forward and keep your standing leg soft. While engaging your core, lift from the glute of your extended leg. Repeat 10 lifts on either leg.

Time Crunch
While you're hydrating or toning with a face mask, you have plenty of time for abdominal exercises. Mahri suggests alternating between crunches, oblique crunches, and single and double leg lifts. You can also try Pilates hundreds: Starting lying down on the ground, lift your legs off the ground at a 45-degree angle. Reach your head and shoulders off the ground while engaging your core and pulse your arms 100 times. Advanced multitaskers can also add V-Sits to their face mask mat routine.

I'm a type-A kind of gal who needs to stay busy -- and productive -- all day long. Whether it's squeezing in a few sun salutations while my morning coffee is brewing, or late-night cleaning and nail-painting while catching up on the latest "Mad Men" episode, I'm a crammer.

And my beauty routine is no exception. Honestly, I get bored doing all those things I'm "supposed" to do at the sink: flossing, brushing, exfoliating, moisturizing, blow drying (OK, that one I usually skip). But if I complete all of these beauty tasks while doing some simple heel lifts and calf exercises, I'm entertained and feel productive. Score.

At the risk of sounding like Gwyneth Paltrow, I have to admit I enjoy fitting in quick workouts whenever I can. Adding small muscle workouts while you're completing a beauty task is a great form of spot training. I'm a barre class junkie, and sometimes I feel more sore from these exercises that target small muscle groups than a spin or zumba class (I'm serious).

To gather some multitasking wisdom, I talked to several personal trainers for the scoop on the best home workouts. They shared their favorite quick exercises you can complete while you're getting beautiful. Fitting in even 15 minutes of multitasking workouts throughout your day could make a difference.

Obviously, I'm not suggesting you cancel your gym membership. Think of these quick exercises as supplements to your fitness routine. You still need heart-pumping cardio to stay in shape, whether it's in the form of a fast-paced walk around your neighborhood or a fancy studio spin class. But if you're crazy efficient like I am -- or you're not vain enough to just love staring at your face during your beauty routine -- give these workouts a go.
