The Must-See Beauty Looks from the 2014 VMAs

Sleek hair, bold lips and Beyoncé ruled the show

Jennifer Lopez
A VMA veteran, JLo looked better than ever with bronzed skin, a shimmering smoky eye and a nude lip.

Rita Ora
Rita may have been wearing the same slicked back hairstyle as Iggy on the red carpet (she switched it up later to a blonde lob with blunt bangs for their "Black Widow" performance), but she kept it glam with a classic red lip and big lashes.

Jourdan Dunn
The British model and Maybelline spokesperson debuted a sleek bob wearing an all-black Balmain bandeau top and full-length skirt.

Sarah Hyland
The "Modern Family" star went for a 90s-inspired look with a brownish-red lip and straight hair, which stylist Ryan Richman created by prepping damp hair with the Wet Brush and Dove Pure Care Dry Oil. Once he blowdryed Hyland's hair with Oribe Royal Blowout, he flat ironed small sections of the hair and used bobby pins to secure the hair behind the ears.

The Caress spokesmodel and mama-to-be was (surprisingly) the only star wearing a braided look on the red carpet. We loved her bohemian side-swept braid and soft makeup.

The MTV VMAs aren't a regular awards show -- they're a cool concert with some awards. Lacking the formality of shows like the Grammys, you can expect the performances to be a little wilder, the clothes skimpier and the lipsticks bolder. From Katy Perry's revival of the all-denim ensemble, to Ariana Grande's head-to-toe leather and every crop top in between, the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards were no exception.

And while no performance can quite live up to Britney Spears's "I'm A Slave 4 U" in 2001, these were the hair and makeup highlights from this year's MTV VMAs.
