5 Ways to Update Makeup For a Pixie Cut

How to make up your face so you don't get mistaken for a guy

Opt for Playful Lip Colors
When it comes to lip color, King says it's all about being playful. Instead of her signature red, she often wears orangey shades. "Brights, neons, happy colors all work," she says. "The pixie is a very happy haircut -- it's more playful than long hair." As for your lipstick's texture, she says anything goes: "sheer, shiny, matte -- whatever you like."

King's latest lipstick launch is the ultra-luxurious Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipstick, $50 -- try Private Party, a hot pink shade. For a punch of color that's lower maintenance -- and puts less of a dent in your wallet -- try CoverGirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in Berry Twist, $6.99 -- a fun, fuchsia tint.

Transition Slowly
King didn't go from a bob to a pixie in one haircut, and this let her gradually change her makeup, as well. "Do it over two or three haircuts," she suggests. "It's a radical thing to do, so try short hair first."

Completely changing your makeup routine can be traumatic -- not to mention pricey. Integrate a new product here and there, and phase things out over time. The best makeovers don't happen overnight.
