6 Ways to Make Your Blowout Last for Days

Save time, money and energy with these expert tips for making your blowout last

It's all about the pre-blowout product choice
"The best strategy to prolong your blowout at home is the products you apply before the blowout. Prepping your hair is key. An amazing product like John Masters Organics Hair Milk with Rose & Apricot, $29, goes on damp hair prior to the blowout. It protects the hair from heat damage and helps seal the cuticle of your hair, leaving your ends shiny and smooth," celebrity hairstylist Mia Santiago says. "Angling the nozzle of your blow-dryer down the hair shaft locks in shine. To really stretch out your blowout, a little dry shampoo on the roots removes oil build-up."

Take care of your strands while you're sleeping
"To prolong your blow-dry, ensure that you take care of your strands while sleeping in order to avoid disturbing your style too much," says Marilisa Sears, artistic director for Marc Anthony True Professional. "A haircut that works with your natural hair type goes a long way. If you have straight hair and get a cut that works with your natural hair growth, it will make waking up a lot easier (meaning less fuss when having to style in the morning). If you have curly hair, wrap it at night (flip your head over and wrap hair in a silk scarf, letting the ends of your curls pop out at the top of the wrap). Alternatively, you can pineapple your curls (this is when you loosely put your hair up to the highest point and tie it to look a bit like a pineapple)."

"Sleep with silk/satin pillowcases; the weave is so tight that hair will not tangle nearly as much as it does on cotton," Sears says. "In terms of products, the Marc Anthony Strengthening Grow Long 2-in-1 Dry Shampoo + Conditioner, $9, is a go-to. The formulation is clear and is super fine due to rice powder. The conditioning agents, such as Abyssinian oil, are super light and allow hair to feel clean while keeping body and shine. There is no residue, only renewed volume, body and the quiet removal of dirt and grease. Say hello to day three and day four!"

Keep your locks replenished after a blowout
"It's important to choose the right replenishing products after a blowout or cleanse to ensure you can restore hair's natural shine and moisture without ruining your style by making hair look too oily. Use a product, like Wen Spring Fresh Floral Replenishing Treatment Mist, $40, that gives hair an instant pick-me-up and boost of moisture and hydration after drying/styling," says Chaz Dean, celebrity hairstylist and founder of Wen Hair and Body Care.

Hot rollers are your new BFF
"Hot rollers will do the trick!" celebrity hairstylist J. Michael says. "Setting a couple of rollers at the crown area a day or two after your blow-dry will help reset some body and volume to last throughout the week — especially for finer hair types. (Try Remington Ionic Conditioning Hair Setter, $20.) Another great way to prolong your blowout at home is by using a dry shampoo. Dry shampoo helps absorb any excess oils you may have to extend the life of your blow-dry."

Make the right towel choice for post-shower drying
"Instead of drying your hair with a regular bath towel, which can be rough on your hair, try a microfiber hair wrap," celebrity hair stylist Jessica Shakir says. "This will cut down on the drying time and promote smoother hair due to its frizz-fighting benefits. You can also use a hair turban overnight to protect your hair and extend the style." Our favorite is the DevaCurl DevaTowel Anti-Frizz Microfiber Towel, $20.

"Also, to refresh your mane and revitalize your hairstyle, you can fluff up the roots by using a bit of warm heat from your blow-dryer, and gently backcomb at the roots using a teasing comb and a light spritz of a volumizing, root lifter," Shakir adds. "This is a great way to cheat a bouncy blowout!"
