6 Ways to Get the Biggest, Baddest Lashes Ever

Ditch the falsies and get big, bold lashes for real with these nourishing serums, mascaras and creams

By Prescription Only
It's not very often that a prescription drug has covetable, make-me-beautiful side effects. But old lady eye drops Lumigan, designed to treat glaucoma, were found to do just that. Enter Latisse: a cosmetic version for inadequate lashes. More than just a lash-lengthener, it also makes lashes fuller and darker. Score!

To reduce the risk of side effects like darkening along the lash line, don't be sloppy with your application. Dr. Wu says to apply the serum at night after removing your makeup and contacts (if you wear them). Wait 15 minutes for your skin to fully dry and then get it as close to your lash line as possible. Look down while it dries to prevent it from migrating up your eyelid.

Another (off-label) tip from Dr. Wu: After you apply it along your lash line, use the rest on your brows. Ta-dah! Say hello to power lashes and brows in four weeks.

Overnight Serums
You can also try a non-prescription serum to boost your lashes into bombshell territory. Not only will these serums make your lashes longer and fuller, they'll also improve the health of your lashes. "We take so much time to take care of the hair on our head with conditioners and oils but we never take the time to condition the hair on our lashes," says Woolery-Lloyd, MD (in fact, a lash conditioner is an essential step in her regimen).

We're giddy about LashFood's Phyto-Medic Natural Lash Enhancer, the first Ecocert certified lash enhancer, which uses natural and organic ingredients like rice and soy proteins to get you the lashes you crave.

Our editors fell in love with Peter Thomas Roth Lashes to Die For Turbo -- it was a winner in our 2014 Beauty Awards. It targets all three phases of hair growth to enhance lash thickness and fullness with a blend of peptides.

Urban Decay Lush Lash System comes with a serum that you apply along your lash line and a lash mask that drenches them in peptides and vitamin E, resulting in fuller, longer and thicker lashes in as little as two weeks.

Like Latisse, you'll want to apply these serums at night to cleansed, dry skin so they don't smudge all over the place.

For Power Lashes and Brows
If you crave fluttery lashes and Lily Collins-esque brows, try one of these serums -- sensitive enough to use near your eyes but potent enough to build up your brows.

Elizabeth Arden Prevage Lash + Brow Serum uses -- you guessed it -- peptides, along with a blend of vitamins A, C and E to fortify lashes and minimize breakage from everyday activities, like rubbing your eyes or not being gentle when you remove your makeup. It's fragrance- and colorant free, making it a smart choice for people with sensitive eyes or who wear contacts.

RapidLash has an ingredient similar to the prostaglandin in Latisse that grows lashes, says Dr. Woolery-Lloyd. It's also packed with biotin, peptides and amino acids to replenish and enhance the lashes you already have.

Great for Lashes and Eyes
These two-in-one products were made to decrease puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and strengthen lashes -- a double whammy in the battle against aging.

Olay Regenerist Microsculpting Eye Cream and Lash Serum Duo has a skin-plumping, line-smoothing cream on one end and a glycerin-based lash serum on the other. Pat the cream under your eye and on top of your lid, then sweep the serum through your lashes with the attached spoolie brush.

Vichy LiftActiv 10 Serum for Eyes and Lashes is non-greasy and soaks into skin in a flash -- reducing bags, puffiness and fine lines with a blend of hyaluronic acid, ceramides and Rhamnose (a plant sugar) that drenches lashes with moisture, conditioning them to better health. Twice a day, use your fingers to massage this over your lids and under eye, finishing with a swipe across your lash line.

Not only is Kate Somerville True Lash Lash Enhancing Makeup Remover a whiz at rinsing away hard-to-remove waterproof eye makeup, it also boasts smoothing and soothing chamomile and aloe vera, de-puffing green and white teas and a lash-enhancing complex that stimulates keratin production for fuller, stronger lashes.

Prime and Condition
Like with the aforementioned mascaras, these nourishing mascara primers deliver instant lash-lengthening, volumizing and overall fluttery-ness, along with long-term benefits.

It Cosmetics Tightline grabs lashes at the base for instant eye-opening effects. Unlike other primers, it's tinted black, so you could wear it on its own, or layer a mascara on top for even more drama. It's also infused with a dose of conditioning serum containing peptides, collagen, proteins and biotin to ensure lashes are healthy, full and lush.

Dior Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum curls lashes and readies them for mascara application, resulting in a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed look, but what really keeps us coming back for more is the blend of breakage-preventing, growth-enhancing soy protein and plumping hyluaronic spheres.
