Gwen Stefani Created an Urban Decay Palette for Herself

The good news: You can have one, too

'Orange County Girl(s)'
Gwen Stefani is an Orange County, California, native, and the O.C. also happens to be the home of Urban Decay. Both Stefani and UD founder Wende Zomnir felt this collaboration was meant to be. "When I started designing, the idea of doing my own [makeup] line was obvious," says Stefani. "But it never happened. It was never the right time, and now I understand it's because I was always supposed to do it with [Urban Decay]. These girls are so awesome; the brand is so awesome. They're from Orange County -- they do their own thing. They did it their way. They're really similar to me in their aesthetic. It was really cool when it came along and how it was going to happen. Designing the palette, the colors, and also the artwork and everything that goes along with it. They're really good at what they do, and they made it really easy."

The Crazy Colors
Stefani's go-to eye look is surprisingly neutral. She layers beige over champagne over taupe and finishes it off with lots of lashes. However, she also included a few bold colors in her palette. ("I wanted to create the crazy colors," she says.) To wear the pink (Harajuku) and navy (Danger), here's what Stefani recommends: "The pink is something I would wear with just lashes and a clean look with all pink. And [navy] I use for a blended line."

'What You Waiting For' Next Spring
Gwen Stefani is known for her signature red lip, and she and Zomnir hinted that a red lipstick might be coming next spring. When I ask Stefani about her plans for future makeup launches, she is enthusiastic -- if a little vague. "I want to do everything -- just keep it coming," she says. "But I don't want to do things that I don't wear."

'The Voice' vs. Everyday Beauty
Unless she's putting together a look for "The Voice," Stefani doesn't necessarily think about pairing her beauty look with her outfit. "In my everyday life, it's more about looking in the mirror and figuring out what has to happen here," she says. "Let's try to fix this. You know what I mean? And what's my mood and where am I going. I pretty much wear inappropriate makeup in the daylight all the time."

No Regrets
Even though she's taken big risks and worn some out-there looks over the years, Stefani says she has no regrets in the fashion or beauty departments. "Why regret life?" she asks.

"The only regrets I would have would be working with a makeup artist and I didn't like it, and I just let it go and didn't speak up," she says. "I learned over the years that there are not a lot of people I trust to do my makeup, but when you find someone that is incredible, it's just the greatest thing in the world." (Stefani has been working with makeup artist Gregory Arlt [shown here] for years.)

"Other than that, it's life, and you understand why you did it. And why regret it because you lived it?"

Rock star and designer Gwen Stefani could have created her own makeup line years ago. Fortunately, she held off until now and partnered with rock star beauty company Urban Decay. The UD Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette is everything a makeup-loving fan of either Gwen Stefani, Urban Decay or both could hope for. It's cool, fun and gorgeous -- and you can scoop it up on November 22. Read our Gwen Stefani interview for the details about the palette from the singer herself.
