Gummy Vitamins Are Harder to Manufacture

"Independent reports tend to suggest that gummy vitamins are more often harder to manufacture when compared to traditional tablets," Fine tells TotalBeauty. She explains that this is because it's hard to measure (some companies do a better job than others) the correct amount of vitamins and minerals in the gummy.

Your Body May Not Absorb Gummy Vitamins Properly

"Due to the chemical enzyme amylase, the digestion of the gummy vitamin begins in the mouth, breaking down the gummy before it travels to the stomach," says nutritionist Serena Poon. Once in the stomach, she explains that more digestive enzymes (as well as acidity level) will degrade the gummy further, which does not leave much to be absorbed in the small intestine.

Gummy Vitamins Aren't Always Suitable for Vegetarians and Vegans

"It's important to note that gummy vitamins are not always vegetarian or vegan," says registered dietitian Jenn Fillenworth, MS, RD. Since most are made with animal gelatin, you'll want to keep in mind that you will probably need to seek out other options that best suit your needs.
