We tried 9 new gel nail polishes to find out which ones stood the test of time (and could survive the nail-chipping hazards of everyday life)

Orly Color Amp'd, $14.99
Pros: The formula is "smudge correcting," making application easier when you're trying to paint your left hand with your freshly-lacquered right hand. Made in Los Angeles, California girls will appreciate tongue-in-cheek polish names like "On the List" and "Who You Know." The price covers steps one and two; additional colors are $9.99.

Cons: The polish didn't live up to the seven-days claim made on the packaging for any testers.

Days manicure lasted: 3

Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy, $7.99
Pros: Testers found the polish easy to remove and loved how the wide-angle brush created a bubble-free finish.

Cons: One staffer mentioned that this polish didn't hold up as well as a professional, non-gel manicure for her.

Days before chipping: 5

Days manicure lasted: 6

Jessica Phenom Polish System, $10.95
Pros: This system does require two coats of polish and a top coat, but testers say it dries superfast. The colors are "rich and high-end looking," and the result actually looks like a professional manicure, according to staffers.

Cons: You have to buy the top coat, $10.95, to make the polish last.
