The Fashion People You've Gotta Stalk on Instagram for NYFW

Live vicariously through the best trend-spotters and fashion cognoscenti

If you're a couple thousand miles away from New York like we are, you've been glued to your computer since the end of August with multiple tabs and live streams open ready to pounce on the first runway looks from New York Fashion Week 2013. Having East Coast envy is no fun. Not only is "the other side" eyeing trends for the upcoming season before anyone else in the country, but the biggest NYC style stalkers have backstage access to see those trends in the making. Do we sound bitter?

To ease our NYFW envy, we've come up with a list of the folks to follow (nay, stalk) on Instagram. We're looking out for all of you who may not have backstage access to the biggest fashion event of the year, so trust us when we say keeping tabs on these gurus will make you feel like you do. From the typical social media savants to the newbies debuting (to our very own NYC editor, Dawn giving us backstage previews!), these are the top pages to follow to get your daily (no, hourly) dose of the week's biggest hits.

The Essentials
Consider these the staples for broad coverage and behind-the-scenes updates. The Council of Fashion Designers of America (@cfda) is at the heart of it all, posting photos of the most prominent designers and their new collections. In the hands of fashion insiders like Coco Rocha and Joseph Altuzarra, you can bet this coverage will be worth every double tap.

Covering backstage beauty and posting action shots and selfies galore, we can't wait to see images from Oscar De La Renta's PR flak (@oscarprgirl) and fashion blogger Bryan Boy (@bryanboycom). And, sure, we're a little biased, but our beauty editor, Dawn Davis (@totalbeautyeditors) will be front and center backstage, grabbing shots of makeup artists and designers while in the pre-show frenzy.

The Dark Horses
Not your typical insiders, we're following the newbies and oddballs who will be showing, walking and performing at NYFW to get a different spin on the clothes, the events and the trends. Opening Ceremony designer Humberto Leon (@humbertotoo) will be one to watch in the days and hours leading up to the label's NYFW debut. OC is creating an entire pop-up marketplace at Pier 57, which will be wall-to-wall with food, fashion collabs, manicures, and the line's first runway show, so expect a few gazillion pics.

Malaika Firth (@malaikafirth) is a fresh face walking in the Prada show. Gorgeous and only 18 years old, she's the first black model to be featured in a Prada print ad campaign since Naomi Campbell in 1994.

Legend-in-the-making Janelle Monae (@janellemonae) is performing live at the Rebecca Minkoff show; Monae and Minkoff will be live tweeting and sharing insider posts on Instagram.

The It Girls
If you want access like no other, follow It Girls who get the royal treatment at shows and parties during Fashion Week. Ashley Medekwe (@smashleybell) from "Revenge" is already snapping shots of her pre-NYFW preparations, and born-and-bred New Yorker/style icon Hannah Bronfman (@hannahbronfman) is our go-to for all things chic happening in New York. Along with Top Shop heiress Chloe Green (@chloegreen5) you've got fashion, style, and uber-social 20-somethings who will be out 'til the wee hours snapping parties, shows and street style.

More It Girls (and Guys) to follow: @gigiguerra1, @miraduma, @idil_tabanca, @bfa_nyc, @derekblasberg
