It's time to say goodbye to those summer shades

Redheads Should Go for Copper and Grenadine Shades
Strawberry blonde may have been big for summer, but redheads should think about indulging in deeper coppery and grenadine shades this fall, especially since they keep your red looking vibrant and bright. Use a hair painting technique like balayage to complete this look, which will give your color a multi-dimensional effect that helps it pop.

"Three dimensional hair color is a must for fall, and there are amazing new toners and semi-permanent hair colors available that will give your hair a hint of red, but help maintain those gorgeous highlights in your hair," says celebrity colorist Deycke Heidorn."Try a balayage in more vibrant red shades like grenadine." To keep your red looking full of life, Heidorn says that maintenance at home is key. Investing in color-protecting products, will prevent your color from looking dull and lifeless. Also recommended: color-depositing shampoo, like Davines Alchemic Shampoo Red.

Fair Redheads Should Keep Roots Dark With Highlights
Redheads with sun freckles should keep their color on the lighter side, as some dark red shades are too harsh on your complexion. To flatter your eye color and your complexion perfectly, Heidorn recommends going for a darker root and strawberry golden highlights.

Warm and Dark Reds Should Choose More Intense Reds
Warm and darker tones should look for intense reds that help frame your face. Heidorn recommends placing dark grenadine shades at the roots. To offset your dark root, your colorist should then create a color melt into copper and fiery red tones. The combination of these red shades will create contrast against your dark lashes and eyebrows.

Shadow Roots Create High Contrast
For those who want a striking yet low maintenance look, shadow roots is a hair color trend for fall that gives you a gorgeous, ombre-like effect. Matrix Artistic Director George Papanikolas says this look is most seen on blondes, as celebs like Ciara and Khloe Kardashian have sported a deeper root with bright blonde highlights.

The trick, he says, is to keep your roots as soft as possible, as you want the blend between the root and highlights to look natural and seamless.

"You don't want to have a hard line like you haven't been the salon," he adds.

Fair Blondes Should Keep Soft Browns At The Root
The key concept for fair blondes is to remember is that you want to create a shadow root that ultimately looks natural. Creating contrast at your root requires your colorist to keep the color a soft brown. Anything darker than a soft chocolate would look harsh against icy blonde strands, making it look like you skipped a few root touch up appointments.
