Season after season, ponytails are a thing. But when recreating them IRL, it can be tricky to make them look polished -- instead of like a gym hairstyle. Fortunately, we picked up a few tricks backstage.

At Jonathan Simkhai, Tresemmé Global Stylist Justine Marjan put the focus on shine. She used Tresemmé Keratin Smooth Shine Serum, $5.99, to create a sleek yet bouncy low pony, and finished it off with a bit of black ribbon.

At Hellessy, Aveda artist Tippi Shorter used Aveda Shampure Dry Shampoo, $30, to give straight ponytails grip. She wrapped a small section of hair around the elastic to finish off the look.

While elaborate nail art designs took a backseat, there were plenty of linear and half-dipped nail looks to recreate.

In an off-center take on a chevron French manicure, nail artist Julie Kandalec featured Essie, $9, in Smokin Hot and Master Plan at Jenny Packham.
