We spend a lot of time thinking about what our faces will look like in 10 or 20 years, (oh, the joys of fine lines, sagging necks, and crows' feet), but Pittsburgh artist Nickolay Lamm has envisioned the human face in 20,000 to 100,000 years -- and it ain't pretty.

Lamm's illustrations are based on the scientific speculations of Dr. Alan Kwan, an expert in computational genomics (think: human evolution by computer analysis). Kwan's research theorizes that humans will develop bigger eyes to compensate for low-light environments (as in ... outerspace), thicker eyelids to better protect our eyes from harmful rays, and darker pigmented skin to curb the damaging impact of UV radiation. Lamm's four illustrations also demonstrate variations in facial features based on evolutionary trends already noted, such as wider nostrils and larger foreheads.

Of course, these are just educated guesses about how our facial features may evolve over time. But it's fascinating (and kinda gross). Take a look!
