"Sophisticated date-night looks will be more straight hair that is slicked back," says Chan. Use a flat iron to smooth flyaways and keep ends perfectly straight. Keep the look polished with defined eyes (think: just a smudge of black liner and lengthening mascara) and bold, groomed brows.
Keeping hair pushed back away from your face allows a bold red lip to shine. Add softness to the sophisticated look with a bronze smoky eye and fluttery lashes (AKA the perfect opportunity to break out your falsies).

If You Want: A Flirty Style
"A flirty date-night hairstyle needs to be messy," Chan says. "Think about bed-head hair that is undone." A messy ponytail is perfect on all counts: easy, doesn't require any hair-washing and takes hardly any time at all -- leaving you with more time to perfect your cat eye (coincidentally, the perfect flirty makeup to complement a messy ponytail).
"Dry shampoo will help with a little volume, and using a drop of cream like Leonor Greyl Eclat Naturel will add natural hold and shine," adds Jesse Montana, stylist at Meche Salon in Beverly Hills.

A Flirty Style for Short Hair
Like red lipstick and Choupette, messy waves will never go out of style. And, they're just the thing to up the flirty factor on mid-length hair. Chan says to style your hair the night before; sleeping on it will give you that undone texture.
Montana says to use a flat iron to add "ribbon-like bends" to your hair, keeping all curls winding away from your face. "When finished, shake the hair out with a little dry shampoo or texture spray like Oribe's Dry Texturizing Spray to give it movement, volume and spice," says Montana.
For maximum flirty-glance potential, let your hair fall into your face a bit.
Unlike other low-maintenance beauty looks (we're looking at you, no-makeup makeup), this breezy hairstyle actually requires very little effort. "For longer hair, you can simply part the hair with a deep side part and sweep the hair to one side ... secure behind the ear with a bobby pin to help keep everything in place," Montana says.

But a date-night ensemble is about so much more than just the clothes you wear. (Read: Don't leave your hair until the last minute). We'd even argue that your hairstyle is more important than whether you don an LBD or leather leggings -- try picturing ratty gym hair with a sleek, skin-baring jumpsuit and you'll see why. Hair sets the mood for your entire ensemble.
