Here's How to Wear Eye Makeup and Contact Lenses, Irritation-Free

Putting on your makeup should be painless and easy

Use cream eyeshadows
On the topic of eye products, it's better to use cream eyeshadows. With powder formulas, it's pretty easy to get fallout in your eyes, which is no fun when you're wearing contacts. Try Clarins Ombre Iridescente, $25, a cream-to-powder eyeshadow.

Wear a primer
Speaking of eyeshadow, primer is key, too: It'll help lock your eye makeup in place and keep it from drifting into your eyes and lenses. Try NYX HD Eyeshadow Base, $6.99.

Be careful where you apply your eyeliner
Have you ever tried to waterline your eyes whilst rocking contacts? We don't recommend it — it'll lead to irritated, watery eyes (which in turn leads to major raccoon eyes). Stick to the lashline and above and leave tightlining for another day.

Avoid clumpy mascara
Clumpy mascara looks unappealing even for someone who doesn't wear contact lenses but it may be dangerous for people who do. Clumps and flakes could fall into your eyes and become trapped under your lenses, which is never fun.

Invest in daily lenses
Using a fresh, clean lens every day minimizes the build-up of makeup debris that may or may not be trapped in your lenses (we don't judge). It may be more expensive, but you can't beat it for the convenience factor.
