Amazing Benefits of Botox You Probably Didn't Know About

It's more than a miracle cure for fine lines and wrinkles

Wrinkle Prevention
Given that most people see Botox as a treatment once they start to notice major fine lines and wrinkles, you might not realize that the best way to approach the injections is from a preventative angle. "One test you can do is try raising your eyebrows and holding them there for five seconds, if the expression lines stay, you may want to consider Botox," says Dr. Gross. "Botox at this stage would be preventative and should be administered conservatively, a treatment I refer to as 'Baby Botox.'" Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank, a cosmetic dermatologist and the author of "The Pro-Aging Playbook" agrees. "If you start with small amounts of Botox and filler in your early thirties, when lines first start forming, you'll never get deep ones like we see in people in their forties and fifties. Small consistent changes and essential habit formation prep people for a hopefully long and graceful haul of aging."

Overactive Bladder
Botox injection into the bladder is an FDA-approved treatment for an overactive bladder, although, according to Dr. Gross, this is typically a last resort if other medications and therapies are not effective. "You administer a series of injections into the wall of the bladder about every six months when the Botox wears off. However this is not done by dermatologists."

Migraines
You can use Botox to decrease migraines, however, like with treating an overactive bladder Dr. Gross underlines that this is something that should not be done by a dermatologist, but rather by a neurologist.

Hyperhidrosis
Hyperhidrosis is a term for excessive sweating. "Botox blocks the nerves' signals that cause sweating, in turn stopping the sweat glands from over-producing sweat," explains Dr. Gross. "The most popular area is the under arms. You should seek another Botox treatment every four to six months to maintain efficacy."

Non-Surgical Nose Job
You can use Botox and filler to alter the shape of the nose without surgery. "This is optimal for those who have a 'droopy' nose," says Dr. Gross. "You inject an average of two to four units of Botox right underneath the septum of the nose. This gives the nose a lifted and lighter look by paralyzing the depressor septi nasi muscle."
