The New Way to Use Body Lotion
I'm not a responsible body lotion user. Most of the time I completely forget until I'm about to get dressed, and at that point it feels too late. Experts agree that the best time to apply body lotion is right after you shower while your skin is still damp -- it's more receptive to moisture and will hold onto it longer.

That's where Jergens Wet Skin, $6.99, comes in. It's a body lotion you apply in the shower while you're still wet. And unlike its predecessors, you don't have to rinse it off so there's no risk of slipping on a moisturizer-coated tub. The formula is packed with oils that hold onto the water and simultaneously sink into your skin leaving it feeling instantly silky. If you're still damp, you can towel off, and the lotion stays on your skin without transferring to the towel.

The biggest challenge with Jergens Wet Skin is remembering to use it while you're wet. But if I forget, I'll jump back in the shower for a quick splash -- that how much I love this product.

Complete Sun -- and Light -- Protection
It's probably not surprising that I'm wildly passionate about sunscreen. It's my desert island product to the extent that I don't even think it should count as a desert island product -- everyone should automatically get buckets of SPF in a hypothetical "Survivor" scenario.

However, the latest in sunscreen research concludes that SPF may not be enough, because it's not just UVA and UVB rays we should be worried about. The light spectrum is also made up of visible light in our homes and offices and infrared (heat energy), which contribute to as much as 50 percent of skin aging. And -- get this -- most of our favorite sunscreens don't protect us from visible light and infrared.

Philosophy Ultimate Miracle Worker SPF 30, $75, is one of the only formulas on the market that can protect skin from the full light spectrum. It has SPF 30 for UVA and UVB defense and ruby powder and titanium dioxide-covered mica to reflect visible light and infrared. Plus, it contains an antioxidant complex that helps mitigate free radicals and ingredients to boost collagen and elastin production.

Basically, it's my desert island product. If only it came in a bucket.

The I-Woke-Up-Like-This Manicure
Nail art may not be going anywhere, but the no-manicure manicure is definitely having a moment. Still, bare nails look so unfinished after so many years of heavy-handed polish application -- so you need to wear something.

Leave it to Zoya to perfect the nothing-but-something mani. The Zoya Naked Manicure Women's Starter Kit, $25, contains a nail-strengthening base, a sheer pink that makes nails look healthy and vibrant, an almost-clear white to define your tips and a satin topcoat. The polishes dry quickly so you can easily wear four or more layers at once. And the topcoat that ties it all together -- making it look like you're not wearing anything at all.

Air Conditioning (and Sun Protection) for Your Head
I run outside all year long; and while the snowy New York winters can be challenging, it's the summer heat and humidity that really slows me down.

This year, I'm wearing a Mission Athletecare Cooling Performance Cap, $22.99, and it's making all the difference. The fabric gets cool when it gets wet -- and it inevitably does get drenched in sweat. It also offers as much sun protection as my favorite SPF 50, keeping my scalp from getting scorched. Plus, it looks cuter than the old baseball caps I used to steal from my husband.

I wouldn't -- and probably couldn't -- run without it.

Makeup Made for Sweating
While the name Sweat Cosmetics is somewhat unfortunate, I'm totally on board with their mission: to create translucent powders and mineral foundations with SPF you can wear while you workout. The Sweat Cosmetics Translucent Mineral Powder SPF 30, $48 (with brush), won't drip down your face and won't cause breakouts. The powder is built into a refillable brush, and while this delivery system has been done before, it's never been done quite like this. The brush is seriously luxe -- you'd think you were dusting a Kevyn Aucoin makeup brush across your cheeks. In fact, it's so good I bet it could make the sunscreen-averse reapply and the makeup-averse wear foundation … even when they're working out.

With its muggy weather and vacation-centric scheduling, August is the perfect time for minimalist beauty. Sheer makeup, barely there manicures and simplified cleansing routines mean more time to enjoy the last full month of summer.

The best new beauty products launching in August 2015 reflect this idea. There's a body lotion you apply in seconds, a makeup made for working out and even a hat that provides sun protection and keeps you cool. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, these beauty products are here to upgrade your summer. You're welcome.
