This isn't your high school prom French manicure. The Fashion Week French got a fresh, fun twist with color. To get the look seen here at Tess Giberson, manicurist Jin Soon Choi prepped nails with her JinSoon Power Coat base coat before applying two coats of a dark gray metallic polish set to launch in Fall 2014. (If you can't wait that long, we suggest JinSoon in Mica or Obsidian.) After the nails fully dried, Choi used her polish in Kookie White to create a thin arc at the tip of the nail, letting it dry before finishing with a coat of Top Gloss.

The process may be the same as your standard French, but the results are completely contemporary, whether you opt for sheer nude with gold tips a la the Suno show, the dark metallic and white combo from Tess Giberson or your own creative color duo.

If you don't have a rich wine shade in your polish arsenal, start stocking up. We loved the modern French versions with a burgundy base and dark tips at Rebecca Minkoff and Wes Gordon, and the basic manicure with a glossy finish we spotted at Kenneth Cole (a base coat followed by two coats of Morgan Taylor From Paris With Love).

Our favorite, however, was the matte version (pictured here) from Costello Tagliapietra. Working with Essie polish, Julie Kandalec applied a coat of Ridge Filling Base Coat to clean nails followed by two coats of Berry Naughty. For the matte effect, Kandalec applied one coat of Essie Matte About You. It was the perfect pop of color to go with the black leather moto jackets and grey sweaters in the collection.

The two-toned wings and graphic lined looks gave us major cat eye envy backstage. At Hervé Léger, Val Garland worked with Temptu to create a "futuristic" cat eye by making an extended version of the traditional shape along the lashline and drawing a separate line at the outer crease meeting just at the winged point.

Meanwhile, at Cynthia Rowley, lead Birchbox makeup artist Adrien Pinault created colored cat eyes with dark navy liner and light blue over top.

Original It girls like Bianca Jagger and Jane Birkin served as the inspiration behind the eyes at shows like Vivenne Tam, Altuzzara and Peter Som. Makeup artist Tom Pecheux worked with MAC Cosmetics Fall/Winter 2014 collection to create the glossy finish at Peter Som.

To get the look -- which Pecheux called "the English girl with a modern South of France twist" -- MAC Olive Au Nature Cream Colour Base eye shadow was blended over the eyelid, followed by MAC Eye Shadow in Stony just at the crease to contour the eye. To give eyes a next-day-makeup look, Pecheux lined the upper and lower lashline with MAC Fluidline Pencil in Water Willow followed by Fluidline Pencil in Blacktrack and heavily applied MAC Haute and Naughty mascara to the upper and lower lashes. To finish the look, he gave lids a greasy sheen by sweeping them with MAC Pro Gloss Texture.

At Vivienne Tam, makeup artist Muad Laceppe for MAC blended olive shadows with brown liner along the top and bottom lashline, then applied false lashes "to give dimension to the eyes and give you the '70s twist."

There were a lot of no-makeup-makeup looks (read: bare lips) at Fashion Week, but statement lips in bold berries and deep wines were still on trend at shows like Alice + Olivia, Ruffian and Nanette Lepore. Sarah Lucero, celebrity makeup artist and Global Executive Director of Creative Artistry at Stila Cosmetics, created the makeup look for Rebecca Minkoff, where "the star of the show" was the oxblood lip color.

Lucero mixed the glossy Stila Color Balm Lipstick in Briggite with Smudge Pot brown to get the right shade of wine and give the lip a more opaque, matte appearance.

"If you want to ease into the look and not go super dark, go with something like the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Amore," Lucero says. To complement the bold lips, Lucero kept the rest of the face clean with just a little bit of blush and strong, groomed brows.
