Ahoy, Matey
"When I was younger, I was applying fake nails. At one point I was trying to unclog the nail glue tube ... and accidentally glued my eye shut. I had to go to the emergency room and wear an eye patch for a week. Sooo embarrassing!" -- Candace Perkins on the Total Beauty Facebook page

"Ok, I just want a trim!

SHHHHHUNK

Eight inches gone. Lol my hairdresser was high."

Put It in Reverse
"In seventh grade, I had lots of fluffy little baby hairs, so I couldn't pull my hair back in a ponytail without looking like I had wispy '80s bangs. I had a brilliant idea one day, and decided to use chemical hair remover on my forehead! It burned my scalp and I now have a reverse widow's peak because my hair won't grow back there anymore." -- hbenv via Reddit

Bye, Bye, Bye
"It was right before my senior year of high school began. I wanted nothing more than to have beautiful, golden beachy waves. So I went to my stylist and asked for a loose perm. She said, "Okay, but your hair will be a little more damaged than it normally is after bleaching it!" Naively, I agreed to it."

"My stylist didn't tell me, however, that perming bleached hair is literally the worst thing you could ever do to your locks. When it was done, it looked like ramen noodles, kind of like Justin Timberlake's hair way back when. When I showered, it would break off in my hand, and it felt like very, very weak elastic. I had spent about two years growing boob-length hair, and it was ruined in an instant. So, right before school started, I had to chop it all off. What remained was a fried, frizzy, brittle bob, which, by the way, did not suit my face shape at all. I had that bob in all of my pictures from my senior year." -- tarogers24 via Reddit

Unfinished Business
"The people who make the DIY waxing kits need to burn in hell. I decided last minute that I was going to save a few dollars and use the DIY wax right before my wedding/honeymoon. I tried the patch on my ankle and had no problems, so I cancelled my appointment and the night before (because I wanted to be fresh for as long as possible for the honeymoon) I started trying to use the wax kit.

Well, let me tell you: I got one leg and half my vag done and was so tired and sweaty and teary-eyed that I gave up. But guess what? The skin was too sensitive and I couldn't finish waxing my vag. I ended up shaving my other leg and calling it a night.

The next day I had no time to finish the job, so on our wedding night my husband 'unwrapped' me and was so startled that we spent about 10 minutes laughing hysterically before sexy times commenced." -- TailoredChaos via Reddit

We've all had our fair share of beauty nightmares: Your stylist adds five inches to your "trim," the lady waxing you reveals it's her first day on the job, something that shouldn't be burning is definitely burning ... Sometimes you need to read an especially cringe-worthy beauty horror story to put your bad haircut or botched manicure in perspective. Misery does love company, after all. From unintentional mullets to traumatizing chemical burns, women far and wide (including our very own Total Beauty Facebook fans) have experienced it all. Here's to hoping none of these salon nightmares or DIY disasters happen to you.
