The Ultimate Beauty Bucket List

See the must-dos-before-you-die beauty resolutions for your 20s, 30s, and 40s

30s: Spring for a derm treatment
Let's be clear: we are not suggesting plastic surgery or having your face stuffed with fillers. We're talking about a quickie dermatologist treatment -- something fast and easy that takes care of a minor issue, like a brightening peel or an LED treatment.

Take the Clear and Brilliant laser, for example: it's a zap-and-go treatment with no downtime that brightens skin. Fair warning: this is the gateway drug of beauty treatments.

30s: Drop $100+ on one product
Even if you're the cheapest person on the planet (or kinda broke), we say it's OK to splurge on a product you covet. A Mason Pearson brush? Crème de la Mer? Save your pennies and treat yourself to the product you've always wanted.

Of course, you'll want to pick something that will last forever (like the Mason Pearson) and works like a dream. So research that expensive face cream before you throw down your credit card.

30s: Get a great haircut
You could get away with messy layers (which you probably trimmed yourself) in your 20s, but try a real style in your 30s. Think polished, professional, and sexy at the same time. Not a mom cut -- think: ass-kicking woman of the world cut.

40s: Demand a spa vacation
Whether it's a girls' trip or a solo retreat, spend a week (or at least a weekend) at a spa. It's luxurious, indulgent, and more relaxing than any other vacation you've ever taken. You deserve it.

If you really can't take the time, here's how to recreate the experience at home.

40s: Erase 10 years from your teeth
"A great smile can make you look significantly younger," says New York City dentist Jonathan Levine. If your teeth are yellow or dull, schedule an in-office treatment like Zoom Whitening or try an at-home system like the new Glo Solo, $45. "Remember, there's a close connection between oral health and overall health," says Levine.

There are two kinds of bucket lists. One involves smug, self-congratulating posts on Facebook about death-defying, overachieving feats no one really cares about but you. The other is the one we should be plotting out in the hopes that, when we do finally kick the bucket, we look fabulous. Because no one will remember you taught yourself to knit or did a handstand on the Great Wall of China. But they will talk about your 70-year-old skin looking rosy and fresh like a newborn baby's butt.

This is your beauty bucket list -- a guide to the products, treatments and skin care, makeup and hair adventures you simply must try before you die. Yeah, we know. You're welcome.
