Sleep Matters Now More Than Ever
We've already seen an increase in the number of products centered upon sleep, but sleep prioritization is going to be even bigger business in 2020, predicts MindBody. "With 57 percent of those in MindBody's Wellness Index study agreeing that sleep is a luxury, it's no wonder savvy wellness businesses are finding new ways to treat it as such," they wrote in a press release. For instance, sleep/mindfulness apps — such as Calm or Headspace — are becoming mainstream, with roughly 28 percent of consumers surveyed reporting using them to help fall asleep at night. Also on the rise: sleep aid services, such as nap pods/bars like Dreamery by Casper or NuCalm by RēCOVER. Luxury bedding is also on the rise ranging from comforters to mattresses to sheet sets.

Capsule Skin Care
Making skin care fun is key in getting consumers to actually want to keep up with a regimen, and capsule skin care is one way to add a little excitement. These products essentially deliver a single dose of a high potent product, sort of like an ampoule. A few skin care brands have already launched their own versions. For instance, in late fall Eve Lom debuted some ultra-chic Cleansing Oil Capsules, $75, and Beauty Pie has a few variations on the trend, including its Superactive Capsules Pure Double Vitamin C & Vitamin E Serum, $65. We predict other brands will follow suit in the coming months.

Even MORE Lashes
Hold on to your mascara, friends. According to MindBody, lash services — which include tints, lifts, and extensions — are now a $1.8 billion industry and there's no signs of a slowdown. "In 2019, 43 percent of those surveyed in our Wellness Index study reported interest in getting professional lash services, including men," says MindBody. "As the lash industry continues its exponential growth, 2020 will welcome more boutique lash studios. And, with the projected growth of lash services, the consumers interested in trying a professional lash service in 2020 will be pleased to see just how accessible it's about to become."

Building Muscle — Versus Burning or Freezing Fat
We wouldn't be surprised if you've come across advertisements for freezing or burning fat via various treatments such as CoolSculpting or laser liposuction. According to Tom Seery, the founder and CEO of RealSelf, even in the world of medical aesthetics we're seeing a new focus on treatments that are better for you. "Nonsurgical treatments that promise to build real muscle are stealing market share from nonsurgical fat reduction treatments, which only kill fat cells," he says. "According to new data [we've gathered], the nonsurgical muscle toning treatment For example, Emsculpt saw a 450 percent year-over-year interest increase in 2019, making it the No.1 fastest-growing cosmetic treatment on RealSelf this year."

Of course, you can always build muscle the good old-fashioned way and hit the gym.

Injectable & Plastic Surgery Reversal
While we're talking 2020 wellness trends, let's also talk injectables. You might have remembered reports of Kylie Jenner having her lip filler removed, and we all know that that the KarJenners have a huge influence on what's in and what's not. According to a report by RealSelf, there's been a notable uptick in interest surrounding revision and corrective procedures. For example, "Hyaluronidase, an injectable enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid-based fillers, ranks number three on the list of fastest-growing nonsurgical treatments, with 50 percent growth compared to 2018," RealSelf said in a press release. "On the surgical side, a total of four revision treatments make the list, including liposuction revision (number two) with 183 percent growth and silicone injection removal (number nine) with 89 percent growth."
