The Best Beauty Looks From the 2014 Met Gala

From Sarah Jessica Parker's mega updo to Joan Smalls' statement lip and more

Sarah Jessica Parker's Voluminous Updo
Parker's black and white Oscar de la Renta ball gown, complete with evening gloves and floral hair accessories, solidified our belief that she is, in fact, Carrie Bradshaw in real life. The updo was over the top in the best way, and the flowers lining the back were an unexpected yet gorgeous finishing touch.

Georgia May Jagger's Retro Waves
The stunning supermodel's Veronica Lake-inspired waves brought Old Hollywood glamour to the Met red carpet. Working with Moroccanoil, stylist Peter Butler created the perfect waves by prepping Jagger's hair with Moroccanoil Volumizing Mousse from root to tip before blow drying with a round brush.

Once her hair was dry, Butler used a 1.5-inch curling wand, curling 2-inch sections in a backwards direction and loosely pinning. Once the curls had cooled, he applied Moroccanoil Treatment to finger tips, running them through the waves to loosen and tame flyaways, then spritzed Moraccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray on the hair for added shine.

Elizabeth Olsen's Textured Pony
It may have been her first Met Gala, but Olsen's fresh take on the classic pony made her look like a seasoned pro. Stylist Mark Townsend created the textured pony by using a double-barrel curling wand to produce uneven waves throughout the hair. For volume at the crown, Townsend sprayed Dove Oxygen Moisture Root Lift Spray, working through with his fingers and blow drying.

For that slightly undone look, Townsend divided the hair into four sections. Using the underneath section, he created a ponytail at the nape of the neck. Next, he pulled the two side sections straight back and used bobby pins to loosely secure the hair before pulling the top section back and pinning it together with the side pieces.

Charlize Theron's Styled Pixie
Theron's 1940's inspired pixie got a modern twist with a slightly messy texture. Working with Davines, stylist Enzo Angileri applied Davines Volume Boosting Mousse throughout Theron's wet hair before blow drying it with a round brush.

To get the textured look, Angileri emulsified Medium Hold Finishing Gum between the palms of his hands before working into her dry hair. For hold, he finished the look with Davines Invisible No Gas Spray.

Selena Gomez's Berry Lip
Oversized lashes, Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings and a structural low chignon (created by Marissa Marino for Moroccanoil) put the spotlight on Gomez's plum lip, which somehow managed to perfectly match the color of her Diane Von Furstenberg gown.

To get the plum hue, Seama Eftekhari lined lips with MAC Lip Pencil in Burgundy, and filled them in mixing MAC Lipsticks in Media and Rebel.

Every spring, the fashion world anxiously awaits the kickoff fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's fashion exhibit. It's notoriously a red carpet where Hollywood and society A-listers take some risks, and the 2014 Met Gala was no exception.

This year's event was inspired by fashion designer Charles James, whom the Anna Wintour Costume Center chose to honor with the "Charles James: Beyond Fashion" exhibit. While the gala may have disappointed in terms of fashion (did no one do their research on James' structural gowns?), there were plenty of glam hair and makeup looks to choose from.

Here are our most exhibit-worthy beauty picks from the 2014 Met Gala.
