2013 Emmy Roundup: The Bests, Worsts, and Everything in Between

See all the red carpet looks at this year's Emmy Awards

Most Improved
Last year, Elisabeth Moss' Emmy gown was a mouthful of trends: loud floral print, high-low cut, cinched peplum waistline, and ruffled trim. We're happy to report that this year, the double-nominated actress definitely stepped up her game. She stepped out in a gorgeous black and white Andrew Gn dress that was just the right amount of sparkly. Paired with her choppy blonde cut and bright statement lip, Moss hit it out of the park this time around.

Best Retro Waves
Her gown wasn't the most flattering or interesting (and frankly, we think the color washed her out) but if there's one thing January Jones knows how to do, it's picture-perfect retro waves. After tonight, we're officially crowning the "Mad Men" actress as the poster child for old Hollywood glam in the hair department.

Best Cleavage
Not a shocker, but Sofia Vergara and her Vera Wang dress are walking away with tonight's award for Best Cleavage. No underboob, no sideboob, just good old-fashioned cleavage as the world intended. Well done.

Most Disappointing
Kerry Washington is known for her back-to-back red carpet hits, so we were hoping for something drop dead gorgeous from the "Scandal" star. Sadly, what we got was a whole lotta Marchesa that made us want to call Olivia Pope for some backup. The soft color was pretty, but the gown looked more high school play costume meets fairytale arts and crafts project than designer show-stopper.

Most Reminiscent of Tapestry
We thought we switched the channel to HGTV when Connie Britton stepped onto the red carpet. Her Naeem Kahn dress looked more like Baroque curtains that would be draped over gold-finished furnishings rather than on an Emmy-nominated actress. Velvet overload aside, we give her points for choosing a strapless shape that was far more flattering than Kim Kardashian's floral couch getup at the Met Gala.

We have a soft spot for the Emmy Awards. It might have something to do with our (unhealthy) obsession with just about every television show airing this season -- "Scandal", "Homeland", "Breaking Bad", "Dexter", "New Girl", "Mindy Project", "Grey's Anatomy", "Modern Family" ... need we go on? Our morning-after office convos on why Olivia Pope needs to lend us her closet (a.s.a.p.), and how Jesse Pinkman sooo just needs to go ahead and give Walter White the axe, are the highlight of our day ... you know, right after beauty reporting and choosing the hottest nail polish colors for fall.

So you can imagine how seeing all our favorite TV personalities step out of character and onto the red carpet makes us giddy. Stalking their gorgeous hairstyles, flawless makeup, and super swanky red carpet gowns is the definition of Sunday Funday. So we'd like to give some superlatives to all those who made our ultimate best and worst lineup worthwhile.

Eyeing the Emmy's red carpet from first rollout, we saw some pretty spectacular looks that were a sight for trend tracking. With color choices that (thankfully) went beyond black and hairstyles that redefined the intricate up-do, there wasn't a dull moment. Check out the best celebrity hairstyles and makeup we thought deserved a round of applause ... and the ones we couldn't even give two snaps to.
