15 Reasons We're Saying Crazy Nail Art is Over

We loved the cutting-edge designs, but the nail art trend has officially jumped the shark with these ugly, over-the-top prints

"Love this game, hate that I can't play it with these nails."

When it comes to my nails, I have three rules: They have to be short, squared, and anything but chipped. I prefer plain, bold colors, mostly because I do them myself and I often wear black, so a bright nail is the perfect way to add a pop of color. Nail stickers and decals were a thrill for me -- a cinch to use and the perfect way to create a fun, DIY look. Plus, by definition, they don't chip. And I got compliments on my uber-short, chic nails at every turn. So naturally, I wore them 24/7.

Now, the trend is turning into parody of itself. We're still fans of the classic accent nail and minimal sparkly finishes, but these over-the-top, painted-on prints prove that the heyday of nail art is over.

So we're saying au revoir to bad nail art, nail decals, printed nail designs and everything in between. And we're sending it off with a bang. So long to polka dot, glitter ombré, rose petal decals, statement spirals and 3D, color-blocked craziness. This is one trend that definitely made the circuit -- from couture to classy to cute to ... downright cray.
