Debra Messing -- Best
Messing is a darling of the fashionista set, and moments like this are why. The amazing color of this gown set her entire look aglow. Super-shiny flowing hair, understated makeup and a bare neckline kept the look chic.

America Ferrera -- Best
America Ferrera set herself far apart from her "Ugly Betty" character when she hit the red carpet in this amazing electric blue gown. The romantic updo hairstyle was the perfect companion with the sweetheart neckline of the dress. Understated makeup and a bare neckline, once again, kept the look chic.

Mariska Hargitay -- Worst
Earlier in her career, Hargitay graced the Emmy red carpet in a stunning emerald green frock. Unfortunately, she also wore stunning green eye shadow and a huge yellow flower in her hair. The result would have been more at home at a luau.

Tina Fey -- Best
If anyone thought Tina Fey really is Liz Lemon, they were quickly set straight when Fey accepted her Emmy in this incredibly chic deep purple gown. Again, the clean neckline, understated medium-length hair, and neutral makeup gave the dress the spotlight it deserved.

Allison Janney -- Best
While Janney isn't typically considered a style icon or fashionista, she always looks great. This exuberant, hot-pink gown was a great choice for the Emmys. No surprise, keeping the neckline bare, the makeup low-key and her short hair understated were all crucial in making sure the dress didn't end up looking silly.

The Emmys hit the small screen on September 20. Until then, celebrity junkies can feed their need with this look back at the best, and a few of the worst, Emmy winner looks in recent memory.
