Kim's eye makeup
The first thing Anton did for Kim's eyes is curl her eyelashes. "This alone opens up the eyes and makes them look bigger," Anton says. Then she used the Almay Intense I-Color Defining Liner in Mocha for Green Eyes, $7.99, along Kim's upper lashline to make her lashes look thicker.

After, she filled in Kim's brows and used the Almay Intense I-Color Bold Nudes Kit for Green Eyes, $6.99, to give her a soft smoky eye. Anton recommends using the sponge applicator in the palette to apply color to the lid. "It works well to pack color on, then you can use a fluffy brush to blend it all together." Anton applied the green shade to Kim's lids, then used the brown shade to contour her eyes, and the cream shade underneath her brow bone to highlight.

Once the shadow was on Anton applied a little more eyeliner to Kim's upper and lower lashlines to define her lashes and blended the line using the smudger tool on the liner.

"Once you're done with your eye makeup, if any shadow has fallen, just clean it up with eye makeup remover before you start on your face," Anton says. (One to try: Almay Oil-Free Makeup Eraser Sticks, $5.50.) And to finish up Kim's eyes, Anton applied plenty of mascara. She used Almay Intense I-Color Volumizing Mascara in Mocha for Green Eyes, $7.99, on Kim's top and bottom lashes.

Kim's finishing touches
To add a little color to Kim's face, Anton applied Almay Smart Shade Powder Blush in Coral, $9.79, onto the apples of her cheeks. She suggests pressing your brush into the compact, tapping off the excess, and then tapping the blush onto your cheeks.

Finally, Anton completed the look with Almay Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm in Pink Pout, $5.99. "I love this lip gloss, it's such a pretty shade, great for every day," Kim says.

Breanne's hair
Breanne opted to have some fun with her hair, and asked Assembly Salon stylist Holli Starr for a braided bun. Starr began by using Kevin.Murphy Hair.Resort.Spray, $29, to "give the hair some grip and help it stay in the braid," she says.

Starr first created a French braid on one side of Breanne's hair and wrapped it back around to the nape of her neck. Then she used a curling iron to curl the left side of Breanne's hair to give it texture. Finally, Starr gathered all the curls and pinned them into a loose, messy bun just below Breanne's ear and brushed her bangs to the side.

Breanne's eyeliner
Just like with Kim, Anton began by curling Breanne's lashes to open up her eyes. Then she used Almay Intense I-Color Defining Liner in Teal for Hazel Eyes, $7.99, to make her lashline look thicker and add a fun pop of color. "I love the teal shade of the liner," Breanne says. "I'll definitely wear this again."

Breanne's face
After applying Breanne's eyeliner, Anton used Almay Smart Shade CC Cream in light, $9.99, on Breanne (like mother like daughter) and followed up with concealer for a bit more coverage. (One to try: Almay Wake-Up Undereye Concealer, $8.99.)

Anton says if you're planning on doing dramatic eye makeup (like she does on Breanne on the next slide) you want to make sure to conceal any dark circles or redness around your eyes, since it will distract from the overall look.

Sure, flowers are nice and a spa gift certificate or champagne brunch is a lovely idea, but this year Breanne, 20, decided to think outside the box. Instead of the usual gifts she spent the day with her mom, Kim, 50, getting their hair and makeup done.

Was it slightly selfish since she wound up with a fun makeover too? Maybe. Did Kim absolutely love the time spent together and her final look? Definitely. Did Total Beauty enjoy hooking these lovely ladies up with Assembly Salon in Los Angeles and makeup artist Jenna Anton to get their Mother's Day makeover? You bet.

Keep clicking to see how their hair and makeup turned out and get inspired to spend some quality time with your mom too.
