Erica's day look
Erica was given the Pixi Eye Glow Cube - Lucent Lid Light, $28, available at Target, to create her day look. She opted to mix a few of the shadows together for a work-appropriate smoky eye.

Step 1: She used the shimmery mauve shade on her eyelid (1).
Step 2: Then she applied the champagne shade in her crease (2) and up into her brow bone and the inner corners of her eyes to highlight.
Step 3: She finished it up with a little brown eyeliner and mascara and a swipe of the pink blush included in the palette (3).

"I think this makeup look is perfect for the office," Erica says. "I loved how the eyeshadows blended for a subtle, understated look that still gave my eyes some definition. Likewise, the lip gloss looked very natural, but still added just a hint of color and shine that made everything look pretty and polished."

Jenny's day look
Jenny was given the NP Set Glam Set, $24, available at Target, for her look.

Step 1: After applying her usual foundation, she used the pink blush shade (1) on the apples of her cheeks.
Step 2: Then she used the light beige shadow (2) on her lids, blending up into her brow bone.
Step 3: She used the rose gold shade (3) in her crease and along her lower lashline.
Step 4: Jenny added a little brown eyeliner and mascara and finished with the rose lip gloss from the palette (4).

"I love this as a day look for work, especially for days when I have meetings," Jenny says. "It feels very put together, but the colors are subtle enough to not make me feel too done up for daylight hours."

Step 2: Then she used the nude setting powder (2) on her eyelids.
Step 3: She applied the cream highlighter (3) and brightening cream (4) to her cheeks.
Step 4: Zuzana topped that with a little of the peachy cheek and eye awakening powder (5).
Step 5: Then she finished the look with the pale pink lip gloss (6).

"I liked how this palette helped me create a natural, pretty look," Zuzana says. "It was very appropriate for the office and made me look fresh."

Do you really need an overflowing bag of makeup to look put-together each day? Or can a few simple palettes -- filled with the right products -- get the job done much more simply? That's the question we're aiming to answer with this two-part dare.

We gave three staffers one of three makeup palettes and challenged each to create an office-ready look. Then we handed over these same palettes to the team on our sister site, Beautyriot.com, to see what sorts of night looks they could come up with.
