We've Now Officially Heard of Everything: Pore Strips to Whiten Your Teeth

A new smile brightening procedure puts a proven dermatological concept to use -- does it work?
"Your teeth do have 'pores', little openings on the surface called tubules," Dr. Jessica Emery, an aesthetic dentist and founder of Sugar Fix Dental Loft, says in defense of her new "pore strip" tooth whitening system.

"This is why teeth yellow and get dark because stains get trapped in leaving your smile looking dull." Hmm. So, you put strips on your teeth, much as you would across your nose, but instead of pulling out blackheads and pore shmutz, you're pulling off plaque and unsightly stains? Pretty much. That's the concept anyway.

Done at the dentist's office, the procedure involves three separate applications of a pro-strength peroxide gel that's then topped with a pliable "pore strip" and then you sit under a light with a big old smile on your face for 15 minutes.

At the end of the three sessions, which are performed back to back, the $99 procedure yields teeth that are reportedly 3 to 5 times whiter than they were when you walked in.

Gotta love the $99 price tag, right? And the fact that the results take less than an hour. (Who has the patience to wait it out with nightly trays? Not I.)

Do you wish you had whiter teeth? Ever entertained the idea of getting proactive and actually doing something about it? Or, better still, have you been proactive and submitted to a procedure? What did you get done and how were the results?
