Our Social Media Addictions Could Be Destroying Our Skin

Technology-induced stress could be causing more physical harm than you think

We live and breathe social media, enough to know that there are some hazardous downsides to our addictions to our laptops and iPhones -- like, say, antisocial behavior. But what we didn't know, and didn't want to know, is that our technology-heavy habits could also be causing harm to our skin.

Dr. Josie Howard, M.D., a psychiatrist who specializes in psychodermatology (we didn't even know that was a thing), says that our use and abuse of social media can have some truly shocking side effects. For starters, spending hours squinting in front of a computer screen can "hasten the onset" of crow's feet, and the psychological stress we suffer due to the constant pressure to be "on" and connected can cause skin sensitivity and worsening of acne.
