UK Salon Charges Fat Tax To Wax Bigger Women

The London salon says it's necessary to keep costs down
Well how do you like this: A waxing salon in London's South Kensington neighborhood is charging bigger women with a "fat tax," claiming that they have to use more wax and materials to do the job than they would on skinnier women.

Clients at the MM Bubbles salon are charged the equivalent of $8 extra dollars if they're over a U.S size 10, and could be charged up to $16 more if they're over a size 14 (and by the way, the average UK woman is a U.S. 14, so there).

If that sounds absolutely insane (not to mention totally discriminatory) to you, well, you're not alone. "I can't see this being great for their business," wrote one commenter on the story. "People want to leave a salon feeling good about themselves and if they are told they must pay more because they are larger they may feel humiliated and not go back." Uh, yeah. We tend to agree. Especially when larger women can go to any number of other salons and not be subjected to a similar charge.

What do you think of the "fat tax"? Do you think it's a fair charge, or a way to scam on women who weigh more? [Daily Mail]
