After 70 Years ... It's About Time!

Eden Miller debuts the first plus size fashion line at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2013
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2013 means bustling tents, outrageous street style and plenty of social media alerts to New York and beyond starting September 5. But the big buzz this year is about Eden Miller's Cabiria -- the first plus-size line to show at NYFW. Ever.

Nevermind that its taken 70 years for a plus-size line to appear on the catwalk at one of most prestigious fashion events in the world -- we're loving Miller's "no bigs" attitude about this groundbreaking moment. She told Fashionista,"I'm hoping it becomes a non-issue ... I'll be happy to get press coverage ... but I'm really hoping that it's seen just as the other offerings at fashion week." And she's right. We shouldn't make a big fuss out of it, she said, because "it's not an indie showcase, it's not these indie designers trying to make a scene or some punk kid coming in trying to be an upstart." It's just ... seriously chic, uber-feminine clothing for women who are often treated as if they don't exist by top designers. That's all. So, yeah, we're a little excited.

Miller started Cabiria as part of a Kickstarter project in 2012. The project quickly became the most successful plus-size campaign ever, raising $13,254. The line was chosen as one of six finalists to show at NYFW from the Fashion Law Institute, along with one accessories designer and four straight size designers.

And while Miller is also busy working as a wardrobe supervisor and stylist for the TV show Alpha House, as well as music videos and commercials (well, don't we feel inadequate), she's also been devoting long hours to the look of the show. "My girls are standard runway height, they have beautiful walks -- I didn't hire anybody who couldn't walk on a runway. I just wanted the show to feel like it is part of the tent show. It's not the freak show on the side."

Cabiria will debut on September 6 right before the Project Runway show and will feature vintage silhouettes inspired by Fellini films and French New Wave cinema.
