And The New Miss America Is ...

Nina Davuluri, of Syracuse, New York, took home top honors -- but not without controversy
There she is, Miss America: On Sunday night, Miss New York, Nina Davuluri, was chosen as the 2014 Miss America winner. Twenty-four-year-old Davuluri is the first Miss America of South East Asian descent.

Davuluri beat out Miss Minnesota Rebecca Yeh, Miss Florida Myrrhanda Jones, Miss Oklahoma Kelsey Griswold, and Miss California Crystal Lee (who took home first runner-up honors) for the position. She wowed the crowd with a Bollywood dance during the"talent" portion, and answered a question about plastic surgery (she's against it, natch).

As soon as Davuluri was announced the winner, racist jerks on Twitter took to their computers to complain, questioning her heritage and calling for a more "American" winner. All those years of pageant training paid off, because Davuluri was nonplussed.

"I have to rise above that," she said. "I always viewed myself as first and foremost American." [USA Today]
