Gwyneth "Beat the Sh*t Out of Everyone" To Create New Beauty Venture

The Goop goddess had some pretty exacting standards when it came to signing off on her new organic makeup collections with Juice Beauty
Gwyneth Paltrow fans who hang on every beauty product recommendation the star makes on Goop.com can now get one step closer to emulating the star's effortlessly flawless style. Last month, Paltrow teamed up with Juice Beauty to launch an organic Phyto-Pigments Color Collection makeup line with the company, as well a Goop by Juice Beauty skincare line, which is slated to launch next month.

And since the 43-year-old took a very hands-on role in developing the collections, you can rest assured that every lipstick, foundation and makeup brush has been rigorously tested before receiving the Gwyneth seal of approval. In fact, Paltrow admits she was pretty demanding when it came to getting the organic formulations just right: "I like beat the sh*t out of everyone for six dream products and, yes, I designed all of the packaging, all of the fonts, every teeny-tiny sticker and the box typeface," she told us at a recent media event.

We caught up with Paltrow to learn a little more about said dream products, as well as everything from the craziest beauty treatment she's ever tried to the surprising person she considers her beauty guru. (Hint: she's only 11 years old.)

Gwyneth

1) TotalBeauty: We think it's so sweet that you named one of the lip colors in the Phyto-Pigments Color collection after your daughter. Do you give Apple any beauty advice?

Gwyneth Paltrow: Oh, my God, she gives me beauty advice. She's obsessed with makeup and she watches YouTube tutorials all the time. It's crazy, she was in a production of "High School Musical" this past weekend and her makeup was just incredible. I mean, it was full-on makeup. She did it herself. The only reason I let her do this was because she was going on stage and her teacher was like, 'You really need to stand out, it's theater makeup!' Really, she's my beauty guru. And they really learn technique from [YouTube] videos. It's the craziest thing. For Halloween, she did my makeup and her makeup.

2) TotalBeauty: We know that you're a diehard Tracy Anderson devotee but do you experiment with any other workouts or try any fitness crazes?

Gwyneth Paltrow: I'm like a broken record but I've been doing Tracy Anderson for like 10 years. I've been a total yogi before that and [did] pilates and had noticed no change in my body. I started doing Tracy Anderson and my entire body changed...and so, I don't try anything else. Sometimes I'll do a boxing class because my shrink tells me it's good to do it once in a while. But it works so well for me that I just don't mess with it. I haven't tried any of the fitness crazes; I'm behind the times.

3) TotalBeauty: What are your favorite products from your Phyto-Pigments Color line with Juice Beauty?

Gwyneth Paltrow: Definitely the primer and the foundation. I love the mascara. You know mascara, I think, is the most toxic product that you buy. I think the mascara is amazing and it's really hard to do natural mascara. [Traditional mascara] is full of carbon black, which is a petroleum byproduct. When it combusts, it makes this black, sticky goo and then they take it from the car, whatever, engine and they put it in your mascara.

4) TotalBeauty: What's the craziest beauty treatment you've ever tried?

Gwyneth Paltrow: I was in London and I saw this dermatologist and I forget what it's called but they take teensy acupuncture needles with vitamins and they inject the surface of your skin with vitamins and I was like, 'What the heck am I doing?' But I just went with it. It was great, it was cool. It didn't even hurt that much but it just seemed weird. It was great, it was all of these different vitamins and my skin looked really glowy for a number of days, I have to say. [TB: Paltrow is referring to microneedling.]

5) TotalBeauty: What is your biggest beauty mistake?

Gwyneth Paltrow: Oh God, I'm sure there are millions. I don't know -- I've never been a person who has taken crazy, crazy beauty risks. I mean, in the 90s, that little eyebrow was...I don't look back fondly on that eyebrow. There were a lot of makeup errors in the 90s, I think. You know, that very matte thing and the eyebrows.

6) TotalBeauty: Do you boost your beauty routine with any supplements or special diets?

Gwyneth Paltrow: Yeah, I mean, if you go on Goop.com, we just did a whole month of detoxing and eating from the inside out. I really try to take care of myself; I try to sleep, I try to drink a lot of water, I exercise five days a week, I make my shakes and have my Spirulina and omegas and all my super foods but I also really like French fries and martinis. There's always a balance that I'm working with but I do believe in not depriving yourself of anything but also when you're eating food, that you're eating good, nutritious food every day, where possible.

7) TotalBeauty: Can you walk us through your daily nighttime beauty ritual?

Gwyneth Paltrow: Since we got all the [Goop] samples in, I'm obsessed with the Goop by Juice Beauty skincare. I use the luminous melting cleanser with a hot cloth. I love it. You dig some out, you emulsify it, you put it on and it takes off all the makeup and impurities, and you wipe it off with a hot wash cloth. (It comes with a little towel -- an organic cotton towel.) And it just leaves your skin so glowing. And then we have this instant facial that I love and you really feel it tingle when it goes on. And then the night cream and that's it at night. And sometimes the eye cream when I remember. I always forget my eye cream and I need it.
