A promising new pill that may make working out obsolete

Let's hear it for laziness! Nature magazine reports that researchers are on the brink of developing a pill for humans that mimics the benefits of exercise. Scientists at the Scripps Research Institute created a compound that, when injected into obese mice, activated a protein called REV-ERB. REV-ERB controls stuff like circadian rhythms and biological clocks, and stimulating it in the mice led to increased weight loss -- even when they were on a high fat diet and relatively inactive.

Is it a miracle drug for slothful people? Fingers crossed, but researchers are still a long way away from testing their compound out on people, so you shouldn't skip the gym just yet. [Source]
