Get Up Close & Personal With Downton Abbey's Costumes

The amazing clothes are heading for American shores this spring
Winterthur Museum. Remember the name, because you're probably going to want to plan a visit to the Wilmington, Delaware, spot sometime soon. That's because Winterthur is hosting the first-ever American exhibition of the costumes from Downton Abbey. Yes, the Downton Abbey. As in poor Lady Mary and isn't-it-sad-about Lady Sibyl Downton Abbey.

For those of us -- and there are plenty -- wish we could go back to a time when we dressed for dinner and had lady's maids who braided our hair, the Downton wardrobe collection sounds too good to pass up. The Winterthur exhibition will include pieces from both the Downton family and its servants, but doesn't officially open until March of next year -- a long ways away for the show's rabid fans.

Expect to see Sybil's harem pants, Lady Mary's engagement dress, and Lady Edith's very ill-fated wedding dress. "The first time I looked at the costumes up close, I was amazed at the incredible detail," said exhibition curator Maggie Lidz. "They are surprisingly ornate."

But do they come with their own Cousin Matthew? Sadly (probably) no. [Shine]
