The Bikini Bridge Succeeds The Thigh Gap As The Thinspo Trend Du Jour

Not only are these trends dangerous, but their target demographic is dangerously easy to prey upon

Great, just what the women of the internet needed -- another supposed "thinspo" craze to obsess about, much like the completely insane "thigh gap" of 2013. (It's over now, right? We can leave that whole thing in 2013? Yes? Good.) While the very unfortunate anorexic and otherwise ED community on Tumblr inspired the thigh gap movement, you'll never believe where the "bikini bridge" got its start. Once you wrap your head around it, you'll laugh... and then you'll cry.

We've got none other than internet colony 4-Chan to thank (yeah, right) for the inception of the bikini bridge. Not unlike the thigh gap, the bikini bridge "celebrates" the area where your hipbones suspend the material of your bikini from your body. If you hadn't noticed, we're having a difficult go of describing the fundamentals of the bikini bridge, mostly because it's so freakin' ridiculous.

And like we said, it would be funny, if it weren't so dangerous and sad. Despite the bikini bridge being the brainchild of some particularly malicious internet tricksters preying on the insecurity and impressionability of young women, that doesn't mean said young women aren't picking up on the sick "trend." Now, if only we could finally succeed in championing a healthy but well-rounded diet, moderate exercise, and liberal Dorito-eating as the latest and greatest "thinspo" craze... [Jezebel]
