How to Unlock Your Best Self in Your 30s

Make the most of your 30s with these life-improving tips
Being a thirty-something is kind of amazing: You've got the wisdom of a few decades behind you, yet you're still pretty darn young. Here are a few ways to make the most of these glorious years.

1. Wear Sunscreen Every Day

Sunscreen is your first line of defense against wrinkles, dark spots and fine lines (not to mention skin cancer), meaning, you should be applying it liberally year-round, rain or shine.

2. Send Acne Packing

We know: You have a grown-up job and a grown-up wardrobe and a grown-up love-life -- so why do you still have the pimples of a teenager? It sounds unfair, but women can continue to experience acne well into their 30s. Prevent unwanted breakouts -- while you contribute to an overall healthy complexion -- by using products like Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer, $14.99. This gentle formula contains blemish-clearing salicylic acid, as well as ingredients that nourish your skin and even out its tone and texture. Bye, blemishes.

3. Get an Edgy Haircut

You're at an age where you've finally cultivated a personal style, yet you're still young enough to take risks. So the next time you're in a salon chair, try a bold bob or a trendy lob instead of your usual trim -- we dare you.

4. Take a Breather

Whether you're stressing about climbing the corporate ladder, buying your first home, starting a family or all of the above, chances are you tend to find yourself under a lot of pressure these days. Though it can be challenging to let yourself take your eye off the ball for even one second, try to incorporate relaxation into your busy schedule. Curl up with a good book, brew a cup of tea and just breathe.

5. Add Beans to Your Diet

It turns out that beans are a magical food (but not for the reasons expounded upon in that silly grade-school era tune). Beans are high in antioxidants, which help keep skin looking young. They're also an excellent source of filling fiber (so you're less likely to nosh on that packet of Oreos after lunch). Consider adding some chickpeas or black beans to your next salad.

6. Sweat Multiple Times a Week

We'll let you in on a secret that can help whittle your waistline, put you in a better mood and help you live longer: It's exercise. While physical activity is important at any age, right now you're building habits that you'll take with you through the rest of your life. Aim for 150 minutes of moderate activity a week (think: brisk walking or jogging) or 85 minutes of intense activity a week (think: spin class, high-intensity interval training or boxing class).
