Aspirin Reduces the Risk of Ovarian Cancer: Study

Taking the pain reliever can lower your cancer risk by as much as 20 percent
Aspirin reduces fevers and cures your headaches, and it may also help reduce your risk of ovarian cancer. A new study from the National Institutes of Health published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute found that taking a low dose of aspirin daily could reduce your risk for ovarian cancer by as much as 20 percent.

Popping a daily dose of aspirin had previously been linked to reducing the risk of melanoma and breast cancer. For this particular study, researchers studied nearly 20,000 women, 8,000 of whom had ovarian cancer. Some participants took aspirin, while others took acetaminophen, and a third group took non-aspirin NSAIDS. The aspirin group reported the most positive results -- a 20 percent reduced risk of ovarian cancer.
